The "I love my ST220" thread...
Discussion
Hatches are the most common - not sure if saloons or estates come next.
Colour will limit your choice - I wanted blue, but bought black as it seemed a good car.
Make sure you learn the standard spec, as many try to pass of cruise, Recarros and heated seats as options!
Alloys corrode badly, watch for rust on the doors, check everything works and the oil is clean. The others will be along soon with stuff to watch for! (Kidders - you're up!)

Was privacy glass an option for all the back windows on these? Only because I have found a car that is perfect in every way except for an ST badge ( badges where they shouldnt be) on the grill and very dark tinted windows both of which are warning signs for me especially on a fast Ford.
Yep, privacy glass was an option - mine (05 plate) doesn't have it. It"s with some sadness that I have to report my ST220 is no more.
The bonnet catch let go in the middle lane of the M1 and smashed back into the screen. Bloody scary. That aside, we got the car safely to the hard shoulder and we're here to tell the tale. Sadly, the insurance company have decided the car is a total loss due to the damage.
A sad end to a great car - they don't make cars like that any longer - it will be sorely missed.

Sorry to hear about your car Podie, I've enjoyed reading about your views on them. I'm sure it will be back on the road soon enough!
If the ST220 is back, someone will have it up as a Cat D. It won't be me though. Damage was extensive - the roof is what costs the money and makes it uneconomical to repair. The worst thing is I have a £670 bill to pay on the car with my local Coachworks for a wheel refurb and a few bits. That's gonna hurt!
Loving the Focus, but the 5pot doesn't sound as good as the V6 at full howl.

Oh no, unlucky Podie
I dread mine getting written off. I love it and don't have £10k+ to buy something better!
I'd just got the car exactly as I wanted it. TBH, I wasn't ready to let it go, but it's been taken out of my hands. Part of me would like to see it put back on the road, as it was a good car.I dread mine getting written off. I love it and don't have £10k+ to buy something better!
Slowly adjusting to the Focus. The big thing is the attention it gets, firstly because people know what a Focus ST is (whereas the Mondeo goes under the radar) and secondly because it's THAT colour.

ARgh I can't decide.
Milltek or JP?!
The Milltek sounds very nice from videos, the JP seems from videos to sound barely any different to standard..
Pros/cons?
Very few have had both. Kidders may have done? I know monkeyra on STdrviers has had both. Milltek or JP?!

I think the JP is better designed and made system.- it maintains the dual runs as per the original system rather tha cutting to a single pipe. That said, I'm biased.

So the JP adds more raspy/howly/throatiness and volume when giving it the beans? That's what I want really! But if it's better-made than the Milltek that can't be ignored really
I'm assuming it's not too much trouble to fit on your driveway with the rear up on ramps?
It burbles at idle, is quite bassy below 3000rpm, and above 4000rpm is really howls. I'm assuming it's not too much trouble to fit on your driveway with the rear up on ramps?
At cruise (including motorway) it sounds no different to standard. It's quite "grown up" really.
During development on my old car it was boomy without the bullet silencers, although Kidders car doesn't seem to suffer from the same thing.
Biggest pain is hacking off the old system....

Glad you like it. Loved mine.... I miss the V6.
Around town at low speeds the throaty burble is amazing, is it weird that I think it sort of sounds like a cross between a 5 pot and some sort of V8? As it soots up over the first few thousand miles it starts to sound deeper. To me throttle response low down felt better, but that could be hope!

The throttle pedal in my ST is very firm. Much more so than any car I've driven before, and I've just driven my puma to work to give it a run and the throttle feels so light and much easier to blip for example.
Is this normal? Is it a problem? If so, is it an easy fix?
TIA
Perhaps check that the cable isn't being stuck or fouled by anything? Sounds like this is the cause. It can be firmer on some cars than others though - the Mondeo has quite "weighty" controls - steering, etc, but I've not noticed the pedals are particularly heavy. Is this normal? Is it a problem? Really?!? I always got 300+ out of mine.
Your not driving it properly then! Usually get about 230ish miles out of mine. Very short journeys however and its an estate so I guess a little more weight!
