Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration
Discussion
Been busy with the RS. Removed the dash board and the full wiring loom. Removed everthing from the shell except the drivers seat, handbrake lever and steering wheel/column. Just stripped the boot lid down ready for bodyshop. As you can see there is rust including some holes on both front footwell areas. Does this look like a lot of work for the right person?
Have a look through the pics and let me know![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/HoylsWuO.jpg[/img]</a>[img]http://thumbsnap.com/sc/BFzZdOFS.jpg)

Not had much time over the last week or so as busy with work.
I have: stripped the inside boot floor back to metal, cleaned up various bit and pieces including gear link rods, ordered some new bits including starter motor, gators etc etc.
Today I removed front suspension so that I could zinc prime both inner front wings. This is to prevent rust forming. This can easily be removed around areas that will need welding. The whole of the underside and inner rear arches needs to be done to this same standard. I will try and do rear arches tomorrow and post pics if successful.
Its nice to see it coming together slowly. Im on the look out for new genuine panels so if anyone has some let me know.
I am keen to hear what you think of the wings/bodywork so far?
Cheers

Hello All!
I know you have not heard for ages and most of you will think I have given up; but no......
I am in the process of moving, we have sold a house and now renting until be find a suitable new place. This with the weather and so on has meant not much has been done.
I finished priming all the bare metal to prevent it rusting in November. Last month I went to the garage with the guy from the bodyshop so he could see what he thinks.
He said to wait until the weather warms up (Spring) and then we will get it in the body shop and commence work. Before it goes there I need to sand the car back to bare metal which does not sound like fun.....
As soon as work re-commences I will continue with the photos.
Many thanks
Paul

Hi
Am i correct in thinking that if I was to completely change the shell of the car it would loose its original RS prestige? i.e it would be a replica?
I have seen this on e-bay and was wandering about buying the shell and rebuilding using all my parts?

Any advice would be great

The Fiesta will be going into the bodyshop at the beginning of June.
I will photograph it daily. It will be there a few weeks as they will be working on it when they get the time. As a recap it will be having (have a genuine Ford panels):
New front panel
New front cross member
Two new outer front wings
Complete new passenger rear quater panel
New Rear panel
Full respray with a top quality lacquer.
I will then rebuild it over the next few months to a 'standard' finish. Only mods will be Samco hoses and a quality exhaust system.
In the meantime the wheels will be sent for refurbisment and new quality tyres fitted.
Cheers

Only just found this thread - great read and cracking work for taking on such a big mission Trooper - a lot of rust to battle with! Any updates on this? You still battling? Would love to take on a project similar to this at some point - just need some time, a hell of a lot of it by the looks of things!
Get on here and update when you can!

Hello all
No real news Im afraid. The bodyshop has just about finished work on a Hillman Imp (I have been calling in every week...).
As soon as this is finished the Fiesta is going in. I am hoping this will be by September. Since he will be working on the Fiesta 'on the side' I estimate he will have it for 2-3 months. Then the rebuild will begin.....

Your paying a garage to do all the work for you; that was not my intention. The idea is I do as much as I can possibly do myself. That way not only do I learn a lot but the finished article should feel that little bit more special. I have even had to buy the tools such as engine crane and stand.
Thanks for all the positive comments. I will pop to bodyshop on Saturday; fingers crossed the Hillman is finished.....
