As above, im looking for a mondeo or smax up to 3 years old due to an expanding family.
The car will mostly be used for short journeys, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many petrols about in either of these cars.
If I go for the 2.0 or 2.2 diesel am I asking for trouble?
Would a 20 mile or so blast on the motorway once a week sort it out?

Yes you're asking for trouble.

Diesels with DPF's don't like short journeys.
