Lovely pics,
Those federals are terrible hehe
Really good day's work lads.
Sprint,,I'll do my best for that Peter.
Which Map did you run Anthony.
I too like the middle pic as it shows speed and brakes, I think that's a classic too.
Sounds like you ran really well Anthony, home circuit and all, what sort of revs did you manage before the bridge, ( trying to assertain top speed scratchchin
Thanks Richard, I'm sure you cursed me for giving you huge responsibility laugh
Fast cars with fast boys in them.
Glad it all went well.
Great thread.
I'll catch up on the vids again and comment,
Your fastest lap on your own Alan, I totally love being on a track alone, it's mega.
By the sounds of the times you all moved forward.
Some of these pros are insane Nick, that's all you can say biglaugh
And young with 20/20 vision thumbup

I need to sort out harnesses....my previous set won't fit with my Tuscan seats, just not enough space down the sides of the seat bases. The CG locks I use with the standard inertia reel belts are ok, but they cannot replace proper harnesses. My right knee, outside edge, is sore from bracing myself against the door pocket, which tells me all I need to know.

I think it might involve swapping out the driver's seat just for trackdays, but that still leaves me the issue of how to fix the bottom ends of the belts without removing the 3 point belts. Maybe I just have to do that too.....it's only two bolts on the floor and two for the shoulder/inertia reel after all.....and as the car had a body off last winter, they won't be seized.

You need a steel plate extension to bring the mounting points a few inches up where you have more room.

That's a good idea I hadn't considered. Just need to make sure the steel extension doesn't do damage to my (brown) trousers on getting out of the car in the pits.

Just long enough to bring it above the point where the seat side touches.

So Peter, how does QBee's full fat turbo compare with your 5.5 now that you have tried both? ears

Switches to diplomatic mode.

The 5.5 is quicker................but not by much.

It is strange driving the same but a different car. Mine is set up as I like it which is fairly perfectly if I do say so myself and performs extremely well in handling as well as in engine power.
Anthony could just about stay in front with slicks on but my slight advantage on the power front was negated by my track focused Federal tyres which performed really well when they were hot but not up to slicks standard.

Shame we weren't timed on a couple of clear laps as we were really on it!

Back on subject.

Generally, everything just feels a little bit different.
Power delivery, mine seems a little more urgent all the way through.
Smoothness, Anthonys is as smooth as a smooth thing!
Love his light clutch.
Love my light throttle.

Its interesting.

My BHP number is very similar to Peter's.
My max torque number is about 15% higher, but in a very narrow band, and frankly I tend to spend most of my track time at higher revs than that.
Peter has a very wide torque band, as you would expect, so it's not surprising that the cars performed similarly.

A better test would be on a clear track and with similar tyres - I was on worn slicks for the afternoon, which drove like a nice new set of R888s, really gripping in the corners and turning in well. In the morning I was on Toyo R1Rs, which frankly gave me very little confidence, washing very wide on every corner. I have driven track days on Federal 595 RSRs before and do rate them, you just have to treat the squealing tyre treads as audible warning.

For those looking to upgrade either by Peter's N/A method or yours using F.I. it will be even more confusing. I suppose for Peter to make more gains would be very expensive whereas you could up the boost (drivetrain considerations apart) and achieve more.
I'm now waiting for someone to come along and ask how much for each system.....smile (inc Chilli bandit)

Peter's car is a really excellent example of what you can achieve normally aspirated and still retain a car that is at home on a country drive as a track. It is lovely just as it is. I am not sure how you would actually get more power down on the track without introducing unwanted slide effects.
But to answer your question, to gain another say 50 bhp (as the only truly detectable bhp increments are 50 bhp steps) would be hideously expensive as he would have to pretty well rebuild the whole of the top of his engine from scratch.
On my car, you just borrow a man with a laptop and a rolling road (let's call him "Jools") for an hour or two and tell him to turn the wick up.
The drive train issues would afflict either car, mine possible more as I believe Phazed has already upgraded some aspects of his drive train to mitigate that well known syndrome, Santa Pod Disease, where the tin worm comes along and breaks your drive shafts.

Apparently a full 5.5 same spec as mine will cost £10-11K plus from Rob.

But, it is a great engine.

Full power and torque throughout the range.
360 torque at 2K rpm and rising to 450.
No crankcase pressure worries and runs remarkably cool.

I will never FI it, what's the point?

I myself and beastie are happy with our power outputs and God like driving skills. Beasties beating heart was built for the track by mr Rob Robertson, and although she only produces a mere 360bhp at 6k and 355lbft at 4.5k the power and torque curves are near perfectly aligned which, with a throttle response akin to the starship enterprise going from impulse power to warp speed results in a package that makes FI and bigger capacity cars appear to be going backwards. That's right. Backwards. I shall demonstrate this next year after the winter rebuild. Best you all get some practise.
