TVR Vixen S2 1969 WFD 400H
Discussion
So pleased the Marigold and Tan interior go so well..
The original spare wheel cover was seemingly lost in black over the period of past ownerships it seems..
Yet i feel you were so lucky to inherit the rest of the interior intact and in such good shape..
What WFD needs now is it being prepared for Hillclimb and Sprints MSA competitions..
I could save up for a licence and share the Vehicle with you.lol

That is a good shot of the interior.
.
Good that it still has that Triumph emblem on the centre of the steering wheel..I wonder who originally put that on it..
Those seats although not with a safety head rest were so comfortable for me and it is just like looking back 40 years ago..
I can smell the combination of vinyl and at the time i didn`t realise leaking petrol from the enormous tank..
Ah memories !
I do have somewhere i think the GRP section parts of the transmission tunnel i cut out to clear the V6 Zodiac tubular exhaust manifold i slipped in..You may have noticed the narrowing of the tunnel inside where the pedals are..
Standard Vixens (1600 x flow) had a loop over the rear of the engine to add stiffness there i cut that out for the V6 as well but reinforced underneath the rear of engine i think..The loop was cracked anyway as is normal to happen if i remember right to what was told to me..

Ahh..I did the glassing up as i positioned the V6 Essex far back and i think the heater box was in the way.
Thinking that the exhaust would be enough to keep warm inside i omitted it.
That inertia seat belt i remember well..
Remembered something else the other day...The Nearside door used to open for some reason at about 80 mph (??) !
On one occasion i was out with friends one of which had a teenage sister who wanted to ride in WFD to the pub where will were going..She was a bit concerned that the door started to open at about 30 deg..
That cable clutch conversion must have been a bit of head scratcher..
My ambition would you believe was to compete in WFD so the glass rear window was ear marked for a perspex affair for lightness..
From my record of failed attempts into getting into Motorsport perhaps it was good not to have progressed that way..
The conversion from V6 Essex and overdrive gearbox from 1600 x flow did enough to subside things on WFD..
I did manage to remove the front screen in laminated and change the screen rubber without damage but pushing out that goldfish bowl would have been a disaster i reckon if it had broken..Hate to think how much they are now..

Thought for a moment you were into Pigeons !Getting ready for next summer hopeing this virus will of died down by the so I can get out and about in wfd400H
Pity that one of my canine children goes hysterical with excitement in the Tranny Connect as i would love to come up and see WFD again.
I believe the aerodynamics are pukka stuff. The inventory states the rear aero was $3000 ..
At the time of posting the TVR was going to cost the customer $100.000 for the work carried out..
To me it is a competition car and i feel the rear aerodynamic device is a serious bit of kit ,not a to be confused by those Halford things that you buy..
I like the Mk 1 Cortina rear lights better than the Mk 2 ,gives it that Lola loom for me which is great.
Nearly posted for him to change the Zephyr side vents to the super Series 2 Vixens because they give me the gringe..
Before the Historic Sports car race scene ..Modified Sports Car TVR`s used to have wide flared arches that looked so good and this is why i like the car so much, although i wouldn`t be brave enough to cut that GRP like that.
I remember a few V8 Tuscans being featured in Triple C magazine back in the late sixties and early 1970`s..
Fuel that gets hot reduces the volitality .We ,or rather me used to cool the petrol for the karts just to get that little bit of extra 1/10th of a bhp on a hot day...
Only thing i didn`t like was the perspex cover on the fuel injection trumpets for show..
Been a lot of WFD over the last couple of days on the internet and for some reason i have wondered who bought the TVR new back in 1969..
There must be someone still around also who was second owner and so on..
Previous to me a guy called Gareth had it who carried out the re-trim and had it painted Brown..He told me it was Blue before that..
Did you ever make contact via the DVLA Keith regarding owners?

No never checked history on dvla all I know about wfd400H history is what I’ve learned from yourself David I know the original colour was orange as there was still some signs behind dash no signs of blue or brown as car body had been totally stripped of paint when I got it, Wouldn’t know how to apply to dvla
I was thinking that about the time i was probably doing driving lessons or acquiring my first car someone was buying WFD from TVR..What a result it would be to meet the first owner or to see a picture of it being signed over..
Pity my dad didn`t have a picture of the Mk1 Cortina when we picked it up from the Factory compound back in 1965..I remember it well even though i was only about 13...So pleased i still have the Cortina to this day.
As i still have my great Transit Connect from new (2007)
Sadly my only other new vehicle ,a 1988 Lada Riva 1500 estate was written off a few years later.
Still we did not have phone cameras then giving instant pictures..
Wonder if the person is still alive ,after all it was over 50 years ago..
I remember Charlie`s angels.
Fawral Fawcett Major ,Cheryl Ladd and the lass who you mentioned (?).
Something like that, but don`t know what the connection is..
Seem to have lost contact with a couple of TVR historic facebook sites..Have you come across anymore?
Some great TVR Vixen videos on YouTube..Amazed that one car still had a toughened screen that smashed as he was competing.
He never realised that he had one thinking it was a laminated..
Historic Motor racing has been super so far this year..
Silverstone Auctions had a decreped Tuscan ,but famous campaigned one go for £35000+..Ex Modsports championship winning TVR.
Yes,i read all about it also..Bit of a discussion about the appearance of its bodywork that is decrepit though..
It has a super race history and was rebuilt mechanically as you say .No doubt that the cost of that work totalled somewhere near
the achieved price at today`s hourly rate..
I am not a great fan of historic competition cars being of show presentation ,as they were never like that in period, but i would not
pay £35000 + for that stretched of the imagination "patina"..If i actually had £35000+ anyways !!!
It would be nice to have the new owner on here giving an invitation of details of it`s future and the Specification of the "280 bhp "
V6 Essex engine !!

David,
Nothing unusual about 280 bhp Essex race engines these days. Can be achieved on a single carb. My race engine is close to 300 bhp on cast heads with correct six pack.
A good race Essex - nothing special…will be north of £15K so I suspect the rebuild will have been all of 35k
I am a fan of race cars of all eras being in show condition. Goes to show we’re all different
