Sorry Matt, misunderstood what you meant

If you've got a budget in mind – then stick to it – there's always another car – and you have to see a few before you can get an idea of what you get for your money.

I'm not one of those blokes who argues about £200 off the price here and there – life's too short.

I just wanted to get the best I can for my money and there was nothing wrong with that.

I can only echo what everybody else is saying. I was selling my L reg Griff 500 last year. Was asking 16k I think and asking for an offer.(that wasnt too far off the mark at the time). part ex offer 10k from where I was buying my new car.

1st person: turned up in a Sunny GTiR, looked all over the car & couldnt find anything wrong, asked for a drive (drove it like he'd stolen it), then wanted to take me out in his car (No interest). He wasnt sure he wanted a TVR !

2nd person: didnt turn up
3rd Person: took the car to his office, he didnt like the colour?? (Despite having seen it in an advert)
4th person a TVR expert

There were loads of others, I eventually left it with Adrian Blyth who sold it within 3 weeks and returned me a satisfactory amount and took all the hassle out of it.

I wish you luck.

Dear Casio, it appears I am your number 2 prospective buyer (your term was 'muppet' I believe) and I think that I should post the full story which may help you to understand why you have been unable to sell your car....

Firstly, I am deadly serious about buying a TVR and do not consider myself uninformed. I am a member of the TVRCC and have been researching which type / model / colour etc to buy for over a year.

I expect a private seller to be honest with me about the car that they are selling, especially when I drive nearly 300 miles round trip to view it (hardly the actions of a time waster!).

I have spoken to you four times at length, 3 on the phone and one face to face and on every occasion you have given me different stories about the car. For example, in my initial call you stated that there was a "hardly noticeable chip" in the wing mirror. When I viewed the car this was clearly a large crack ( I notice you didn't state this in your list on these pages). Then on opening the nearside door I found that there was heavy gouging of the nearside sill where the door had dropped - fair enough, I know this is not uncommon on Chimaeras - but then you tell me that someone drove into the side of the car at your place of work - and maybe this is what happened to the wing mirror also.
So now the wing mirror damage story has changed and now you're telling me about some impact damage.

You also told me in the initial call that the car had 12 months warranty and the chassis had been waxoiled, both of which turned out to be untrue when I viewed the car.

You also gave the same story to a fellow TVRCC member of mine, and tried to get him to view the car. He too would have found a totally different car once he viewed it.

So I ask you - who is the time waster here?!

Furthermore, you did not mention that I actually telephoned you back and made an increased offer of 15.5k after checking on repair prices ( as I promised to do). At no stage have you been prepared to discuss price or really offer any reduction from your asking price.

You have to be prepared to sell a car for less privately, as this also gives you the freedom to buy a car privately. The dealer knows this and he can offer you a good price because he knows he's going to get it back when you buy from him.

If I pay the amount you were asking for a car of your age and 35k miles, I expect it to be in good condition - I can live with minor faults ( I own a Land rover!) but a leaky roof, corroded wishbones and chassis, impact history, heavily scuffed sills, poor front end paintwork, requiring a new mirror, opaqued windscreen, heavily damaged radiator (leaking), seatbelts not returning etc...? This is hardly an A1 car is it now.

I am sorry to hear that you have been having trouble selling your car. I think it is clear though that as you are normally able to sell cars easily but not the TVR, that you are obviously asking to high a price.

Regards, M T (Not related to Kermit the frog!)

This is the man who changed his profile to make allegations against an unnamed (but known to be reputable) dealer and his supposed "economy with the truth" about a damaged Chimaera!

Confused Onlooker!!!!

Just a quick word of warning chaps - lets not let this get too serious please. PH is a light hearted site full of fellow petrol sniffing fans.... lets keep it that way please.

As has been said many times before - misunderstandings are common place with people. Its all about communicating and sometimes a breakdown does occur. Lets put this one down to misunderstandings on both sides and take it from there...

A plan?

Cheers,

Paul

A nicely put argument..
But I would like to point out (Not that I wish to defend the chap if your comments are true given the No. of times I've been to look at an A1 car that was s****e sometimes driving hundreds of miles) however, Seatbelts not returning is pretty common, as is a leaky roof, and rust is also quite a common problem on the buggers.. Unfortunately so if poor front end paintwork - they seem to be stone magnets in my experience.....

I'm sure if you want a really really really nice one (and why wouldn't you) then there are plenty of them out there.

Just being slight devils advocate there...

M T ,
leaky roof, corroded wishbones and chassis, impact history, heavily scuffed sills, poor front end paintwork, requiring a new mirror, opaqued windscreen, heavily damaged radiator (leaking), seatbelts not returning etc...? This is hardly an A1 car is it now.

A) Why did you bother making an offer then if it was so bad and quote "a waste of time" ????????

B)Never ever said it was an A1 car that why its a 98R at £17,995 not £25,000 !!Xxx Aghhh
Leaky roof (never leaked in its life no water stains, no wet carpet, no nothing) corroded wishbones and chasis yes wishbones explained on phone, chasis light surface rust as every other one including my 12mt old cerbie 4.5 L/W !!!! And every other TVR on the road.
Opaqued windscreen its a miracale I am able to drive it and it passed its M.O.T. god knows how it did that
Impact history none .7cm chip out of mirror and 2cm scuff on sill.
Heavily damaged radator leaking, no leaks yes a couple of fins missing as per all other cars with no grill
Seatbelts not returning happend once when roof trapped on the top of the belts ala every chimaera !!!!
Now yes I may be getting defensive and no the car is not perfect I have never said it was to anyone !!!! but it I was offering the car for 20 or 22k like may others you may have some limited points but I am not

Now finally and my whole real point If any one can explain why if I get offered £16,500 cash from my local dealer no part e/x JUST STRAIGHT CASH TO BUY MY CAR (and explain this to ever expectant purchaser on the phone before they drive to see the car) why on earth some one would ever expect me to take £15,500 cash for something I have been offered £16,500 for from a dealer, someone please explain this to me that's what thats all about, and if the cars's so bad and a waste of time why people A) Want to buy it B)A dealer want's it. Surely if its that bad no one would want it.
I think I will rest my case now !!!!!! And take it to the dealer to preseve my sanity !!!!

I think the final word is if you can't afford to buy and run a TVR stop dreamming and wasting owners time

Kind Regards
The END

And Benno, Just to clarify My car has had no impact at all apparently the other car at the so called "reputable dealer" was sold on un knowingly since then the car has been independantly inspected and found to have chasis crack's and a whole host of other problems and the case is going through court with the help of trading standards along with two other cases from trading standards
