Chimaera Roll Bar

Steve,
Are you saying that the TVR rollbar, (NOT the Rollcentre one) is infact only attached to fibreglass (GULP!) and NOT the Chassis?
No. But the factory describe it as cosmetic and say it is not intended to protect you which really says it all. The difference in the amount and size of the clamping (necessary to distribute the weight/force) is immense.
While I have not rolled the car (touch wood) I have had some pretty heavy side impacts (bend wishbones and uprights heavy) and I believe the roll bar added to the overll strength and rigidity of the car in these cases. In both of them I just got out of the car and went hmmmm.
The 520's roll bar formed the basis of the Tas roll cages and I am about to retrofit the cage part to the 520 for the additional protection and nothing to do with stopping the chassis flexing with the power from the 2002 spec engine.

TVR never cease to amaze me, i'm surprised they don't give away spurs and a 10 gallon hat with every new car!
But they are only doing what their customers want. And to be fair, the new cars from the Cerbera on do have very good built in roll protection.
The problem is that you and I (assumption) look at any mod from two perspectives: does it make the car go faster and does it help protect me. The priority will change. Many other owners use a different criteria of does it look good? If it looks the part, I'll fit it without thinking about exactly what the implications are.
