I went camping once.
I did once too ... Why would anyone sleep on the ground when you can sleep in a soft bed ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOA0Xzkyub8

They're too new Bullitt.
I'm guessing Bacon's camping enthusiasm probably started after watching this:

We have soft beds in the tent.. and a heater… and a fridge.. and a bbq that’s right… a bbq… and cold beers in the fridge
Ah you bunch of pansies. Join the Boy Scouts and we'll make a man of you. No soft beds, just a thin sleeping bag on nice damp ground with a proper fire where you can hang a dixie to make real corned beef hash. The occasional carcass of a dead pig would float past in the stream just in front of the camp from the neighbouring pig farm. This was probably the last time I 'enjoyed' a camping trip, c1969.Christ thought l was the only one who “enjoyed” camping in the 1960s. Yes l recall fondly my father and his friend putting up the EX Army tent, in the wind , seeing them holding on bravely as the wind blew.
We were fortunate the local sea scouts were also there and saved their blushes by putting the tent up for them. I think it’s still there as they didn’t take it down…
It rained all night , and what with our proximity to a stream and no toilets the ladies decided it was best we pack up and head home, 30 miles away.
That was the ONLY camping we ever did.
I suggested to my girlfriend we go camping, she told me a surefire way to get rid of her was to suggest camping… she’s now my wife.

Have to admit whilst I love my tent and everything that goes with it I have always fancied a camper van, and more recently a motor home…. Could probably get a serious piece of kit if I sold the TVR and the Aston… but that’s not going to happen…. So tent it is
Loitering within tent sounds much more you, Richard... Motor mansions are great....until you want to park in the middle of Padstow on a rainy Thursday lunchtime to grab a hot Cornish pasty from one of the many pasty shops therein. At which point you discover the joys of parking something that wide and long in a space made for a normal car on a narrow street.

Yes, but there's camping and camping.
We have a fixed double bed, programmable central heating, full Internet and TV, full sized fridge and cooker, etc.
Sleep in a tent? Are you mad? Last time I did that was 2005 at Le Mans. Never again.
2005 was the last time I camped and was also at Le Mans. Horrid just horrid. Idiot group that I had joined to drive down and camp (ended up with physical violence!). The camping was too hot, noisy and uncomfortable. We have a fixed double bed, programmable central heating, full Internet and TV, full sized fridge and cooker, etc.

I enjoy camping at Le Mans.
For years I packed everything into an MX5 NA but now I've got a Chim it's easier.
I've got a tent I can stand up in, double bed, electric hookup for a cool box so I can have chilled orange juice when I awake.
This year I've treated myself to an Outwell fold up chest of drawers to keep my tent tidy and I've been adopted by some great Dutch who cook for me.
It's awesome
