As a Bae apprentice , I had to turn round Canberras, Lightnings , Jaguars and Jet provosts (Strikemasters) . Refuelling and putting the engine starter explosives in (cordite.. Canberras and Amyl Nitrate.. Lightnings) ... scary climbing on the iced up wings of a Lightning which had just landed , with No safety harness yikes
Being the chocs away man was quite fun though smile

Around '87 we were undertaking a diving programme on one of the Southern North Sea Gas platforms, and I clearly remember Lightnings flying around, I'm guessing from RAF Binbrook.... Most memorable moment was one of them producing a sonic boom that set all the platform alarms off... shout Muster Stations smile

Amyl Nitrate also brings back memories .... when i was about 15 I flew (badly) model aircraft with "diesel" engines and I would make my own fuel , a gallon at a time. My recipe was equal parts Paraffin, Castrol "R" and Ether and 100ml of Amyl Nitrate. I would go to the chemist in school uniform and buy a quart of Ether and 100ml of Amyl Nitrate , all in glass bottles, then carry it home on the bus. Drugs and H&S weren't on the agenda then smile .

I thought it was only my Mrs who went shopping on a broomstick. Perhaps Mrs GW does too?

The quart I understand, but 100ml? ...was that a thing way back then?

I think only pubs sold gills, chemists had stopped rolling their own pills and selling their homemade potions by then . I can't remember asking for fluid ounces . smile

We did when we were teenage kids, but we abbreviated fluid ounces to "floozies" because it sounded better.
I still think of them as floozies. A pint of floozies is 20.

My rule in life - never grow up. It's far too boring.
Baconsarney will confirm that I have never grown up, once a juvenile tt, always a juvenile tt, is my motto.

I can confirm Anthony is 12. Two years younger than when we first met some 11 years or so ago.. Oh, Peter too… although Peter is a bit more grown up than me and Anthony. But only a little bit. In fact the difference is so small it’s hardly worth mentioning… I’ve been monitoring this for a while and I think Iain, GW, TS, and Puch are all about 15. So grown ups really. This CabSav is really good…

I've switched to supermarket super unleaded rather than v-power. I'm telling myself it's so the car can prepare itself for the pilgrimage through France, but it's really for cost.

Eyewatering putting in 55 litres the other day...

I long suspected that I was the youngest here at only 8 years old, still wearing shorts and playing with stickers on my cars smile

It is juvenile and I love it.
Less fun was fuelling it 420 miles here but I'd still far rather pay that then drive the Kia EV6 I've got on order (when the bloody thing turns up)

Amyl nitrate is an old hat angina remedy, and some people have used it recreationaly( they are called poppers?party) A character in the Rocky Horror show was called Amyl Nitrate if I remember correctly.

I stand corrected ... but I was still st scarred skating about on ice with a jug full of it pouring it in the hole smile
The wheel brakes on a Lightning were activated by a little lever on the joystick, I was in the cockpit being pushed back into the hanger, when I nearly put a wing into the bosses office. No one told me you had to pump the brakes, until disaster nearly struck smile .
