I’m trying to understand what went on last year without getting personal, I wasn’t there so know nothing.
Driving standards,,
Not moving over when a faster car is behind you.
Taking a central line so nobody can get past you,, that’s proper annoying.
People diving up the inside ( it’s a trackday) ?
Gord knows but any of these Spring to mind.
Education is everything so maybe take out the who where and when and just explain why some driving was poor so they can learn to do it better
My view was that the issues were people not moving over. Slow through corners then gunning it down the straights to preserve thier position. There was little or no discussion about etiquette in the breifing and no blue flags. I've seen better behaviour on general open trackdays. No one was silly but blocking faster people lap after lap only encourages silly behaviour. There were some comments on here about a Lotus or two but all I saw was some more track orientated cars that were much faster in the corners and not being given space to enjoy a lap at thier pace. I've always taken the approach that if you let the faster cars past you can then focus more on your own pace rather than thinking about who's behind you - this is why I like the last hour of a track day the most when it's much quieter. Etiquette was well covered - as always

Generally agree but where there are novices up against cars much faster, very dangerous.
You appear to be applying what I said to something else.It was to point out that if the TD is sessioned then poor driving standards [in any group irregardless of believed or actual skill levels] has a greater impact on 'your' day if the behaviour remains unmodified / allowed to continue - which it was during most of the day. It is a problem with using the 'session' set up. The organiser(s) need to take some, that is some, burden here. You should really notice when someone is causing such an issue - all the marshalls I have spoken too seem to 'know' when such things go on - and deal with it proactively.
The advantage of 'open pit' is that it gives 'you' the choice to come into the pit for 5-minutes and then go back out. Not losing much track time. That doesn't mean the 'open pit' set up is perfect. Plenty of other issues with it.
^^^^^
I've never had any problem with open pitlane. If there are a few monkeys out there, just come in for a few minutes until they vacate the track and then go and spend time as you please out there.
As Stuart said, nothing is perfect but I believe open pitlane is far better.
If you are a complete novice, keep a look out for novice only track days. These may suit.

Sorry if I misunderstood, just to clarify novices are more likely to get in a jam with open pit lane if they happen to go out when extremely fast drivers are out there. I agree wholeheartedly it’s down to the stewards to call drivers in for a chat if they are showing bad manners or poor driving standards in any group sessions. I too much prefer open pit lane as like you say you can choose your moments wisely by just seeing what’s out on track before you enter the danger zone
Keeping things in perspective, the track is a twisty place, not easy unless you have learnt track etiquette, it’s a gentleman’s sport after all.
