My lighter ran out of gas! Just as well. But, to be serious about all this, of course those of you who have mentioned that we buy what we want (or need) are perfectly right.

I have no inclination to run down TVRs. I am thankful that a small British manufacturer has the guts to produce a car with such huge performance. On the other hand I regret that any member of this forum should see fit to malign another manufacturer's product, particularly when that product is aimed at an entirely different market.

In my own case I have been lucky enough to have a number of cars which, in their time, could see the boots off all the opposition. On this occasion I settled for the Carrera 4 Tiptronic because there was a two year waiting list for a Turbo (on order!), and I wanted to see (a) what the Tiptronic was like, and (b) whether Porsche had overcome their more idiosyncratic characteristics.

Add to this the challenge of trying to keep up with faster machinery, and you have a good recipe for enjoyment!

I'm about to move house and the new place is surrounded by Porsches. I've seen 2 x Boxsters and 2 x 911s so far, and that's in a street of 5 houses!! I bet that we'll all get on just fine - and I bet my bottom dollar (is that the right expression?) that some of them ask for a spin in my Chimaera. I won't be asked them for a ride, but I respect their motors.

I will be looking to see which house the AA/RAC man visits first though :-)

P.S. I wonder if any of them have a TVR tucked away in the garage ...

I have a Nissan Pick-up on my drive for the days when the weather takes the fun out of driving.

I'll get me donkey jacket.

Down my road we've got an astra van, a Nissan Hiace, my Transit, and the posh bloke on the end has got a Merc Sprinter all lined up on the drives.

There are some toys in our toy cupboards though but that's a different story.

As far as I can see this guy has a fast car and he enjoys using it. I couldn't care if it was a Yugo (however unlikely), he's one of us so .. respect!

I wouldn't own a Porsche myself, having driven a 996 on the track and not liking it one bit (engine at the wrong end for my tastes), but its all personal preferences.

I bit a light hearted banter between enthusiasts is one thing, bigotted abuse quite another. Lets keep it real!
