Does anyone else here think he might, to some extent, be winding us lot up?

Hmmm....

No idea what TVR is worth but although the BV cost a lot to get to production they will be making a big profit on each car.

jesus everyone is either having ago at sticking a rediculously big engine in a car and calling it a veyron beater or something superlight weight and trying to be an atom. stick to what you do best TVR. beautiful looking savages. if you want to do a speed 12 ok but why the hell would you supercharge it. TVRs traditionally dont have any driver aids and the speed 12 had stupidly large power to start with so to give it more power means you would certainly need driver aids and TVRs dont want them.

Keep making the Tuscan, Keep making the Sagaris and shut the hell up

Does anyone out there realise how hard it is to make and approve cars for the USA. They're all total dreamers. Bumpers, lights, airbags, side impact, 50 mph rear impact (yep 50 mph) and thats before the nutters in California get their hydrocarbon emission tests and diagnostics stuff on top. No chance.

what's the point in trying to "beat" the veyron ? and in what way will you beat it ?

will it be a car that is more solid, better built. more reliable, more user friendly, more able to be driven in all conditions, on all roads and acceleration quicker with a faster top speed ? For less money ?

Or will it be a typical TVR quality car (don't get me wrong, I love TVRs, but we all know that Mercs are better built...) that happens to have an engine way to powerful for the chassis etc to handle, that will, if you're an absolute nutter, go faster than the Veyron ........

Just make some nice BRITISH sports cars with unique style and loads of power, make them solid and reliable and reasonably priced.

That's it !

This is all a bit futile as the vast majority of people believe this is all just hot-air.

On the SP12 issue, it wouldn't work.. As i remember it, the original SP12 had atleast 800+bhp regardless of state of tune in a car weighing little over a tonne.
I remember an interview with Peter Wheeler where he said it was rubbish as a road car as you couldn't get all the power down without Traction Control etc which would in turn make all that power a bit pointless.
Bunging on a Supercharger would just make it even more undrivable.

Anyway, as said before this is just playground stuff and pretty pointless..

I remember readin in CAR magazine (i think oct 2005)that VW is making a LOSS with each car even tho they retail at a million euros,as much as i like the idea of a veyron beatin TVR i think its jus not feasible, peter wheeler himself said that 940 bhp in a car weighin a ton is ridiculous, espcially with no driver aids.

Smolenski is clearly setting his sights too low, he should be working on a replacement for the Space Shuttle!!

NASA has dominated this niche market for too long, time for something with a bit more style!

Wrong idee

A Bugatti (Veyron) is so much more than 'performance', it's a mythe, there is no substitute what so ever, even if it gets beaten in terms of speed or acceleration, the 'others' don't come in sight of what a Bugatti stands for.

There is of course the minor point that he doesnt actually *have* a Speed 12 to hand and he has nobody to build him one and to the best of my knowledge doesnt even have the designs for it.

If he asks Ricardo to design him one they will laugh at him and even Ricardo's new TVR star signing will laugh at him.

Don't be so negative. The USA spec Speed 12s will be part of the 2,000 cars sold in the USA next year after a good performance at Sebring these 2,000bhp 300mph monsters will make the world notice TVR.

Not only wil the US spec speed 12s have 2000bhp they will also weigh less then 200kgs and have no drivers aids not even wind screens, oh and a drag coefficient of 0.1!!
