I just can't get over how ugly that Aston is for me. The TVR isn't much of a looker granted, but you expect an Aston to be pretty.

Morning..!!
Righty...impressions....are still the same as when I first clapped eyes on it at GR. AWESOME.
Spoke with two of the guys and they’re very very enthusiastic..and very aware of all the feedback. They listen..and are listening...
Sat in it...and driving position is perfect. Visibility is absolutely spot on..daily is a Velaar..which does have blind-spots....this feels a lot easier on “first sitting”. Reassuringly heavy clutch..and very short throws for each gear. Steering wheel feels right...although could look better imo..
Final (exterior) wheel design hasn’t been configured yet. But the car is 99% what we’ll get. Doors are operated by key..not buttons under mirrors.
Les fired it up..VERY VERY loud...and was instantly bked by one of the stewards and had to switch it off within 3 seconds. Thus cant comment on idle / tickover rumle / burble etc.
Overall size of the car..is spot on. Fezza’s in the hall (488 & Portofino) looked way too big and ‘cumbersome’ in comparison. The Aston...hmmm... love it from the back and side...BUT...really unpleasant from the front. It just doesn’t flow ... The Griff DOES...and looks so much more ‘appealing’...and...here’s the thing...it has superior “presence”...and at under £50k cheaper (by the time u’ve specced it) almost seems a bittofa ‘bargain’..
The chaps said the gearing is made for usable everyday performance. It won’t surge..and annoy in traffic queues.
Apparently the Drive~Tribe crew all loved it..Hammond apparently really REALLY luvved it..!!
Go see it for real....it really does look fabulous.
... and 300 kg lighter, with the same power ~500bhp, from a non turbo V8

(I also really like the styling of the Aston, but most will be well over £135k, when all must have options are ticked, possibly a lot more)

Pity about the key - I take it you mean remote fob - i hope the handle can be hidden?

Are they letting anybody sit in it or do you have to request it? I would like to take a pic of my boys in the car (as well as experience the driving position. I have to be honest, I prefer the less visibility feeling - I think it adds to the drama but more visibility is arguably better!

I'm going to find out if my taste in cars is the same as yours spag - in pics I think the Aston has it - REAR and SIDE of Aston marginally better than TVR, FRONT of TVR nicer than Aston - but we will see if I change my mind tomorrow!

That Aston front is appalling!

I don't get it. Why are manufacturers supersizing their grills? Soon they'll all look like demented pugs.

One does it and they all follow like sheep, bahhh.

Apart from that mini rant, I still think the griff will look good with the numberplate in position.

I believe it is. Read somewhere it comes up at 55mph but there is a switch to raise and lower.

Flying down with the missus tomorrow - maybe get there by late morning for what might be a make or break visit. Still underwhelmed with the total lack of information supplied to deposit holders; indeed any commitment to those who've stumped up cash. I've probably spent another 15% on top of the deposit value (and not the car club cheepie option) on flights, rental cars and hotels to manage to come and see the car (or a shape under a tarp) on this and previous, showings, and I'd be lying if I wasn't questioning 'for what?'.

I would really like to know where I am in the list, ans consequently when a car might appear; and how much it will cost. Positive answers to these (and other queries) - and assuming I think I can live with the goldfish grin - and I will sit tight. But if it's just another looky-see with no more details, then the Corvette option is looking ever more attractive... In truth I'm guessing there will be just enough to keep me on the hook, but not quite enough to make me feel truly relaxed about the whole deal and another who-knows-how-long without the car. We'll see...
Second this, comms to deposit holders hasn’t been good enough. Most of my frustration with this is actually driven by pure excitement to own the new griff - I just want to know when it will be, options/spec, price etc.

Still no real driving footage either? If it’s true TVR are indeed listening, how about inviting all us deposit holders to see what the new griff can really do. The best marketers you have are the people who have placed their faith and hard earned cash in the relaunch of this brand - give us some ammo!

Yeah, that's what i heard, too. It's just not clear to me how they will attach it and where the mechanism for retracting goes on the inside. Just wondering how stable the whole thing will be when it is only attached to the boot lid. Reason i ask is that i think the profile line is a lot cleaner with the wing retracted.

Anyone who was there and talking to the guys heard something about the number of deposits down ? General reception ? Timeplan ? Factory ? Overall enthusiasm ? Next milestones ?

@spag: when you said they "are listening", did they elaborate on that ? Also, do you know anything about the engine-sound and volume being in a remotely finalized state ?

Any answers appreciated, thanks guys.

The chap told us that they had a waiting list above and beyond the deposit holder list.

Must say thought the motor show was utter st, there was only two halls to look round, certainly glad we didn’t pay to go, we were done with it in just over an hour...

Les fired it up today as well - holy hell does it sound good!!! (and got immediately bked for doing it by Excel staff) - well done Les smile

I have to admit in the flesh and very close up, I got to sit in it, there is a lot of TVR DNA in the looks and detailing. The roll bar and seat belt mounting visible through the 3/4 window is pure Sagaris. Still not sold on the front but who cares when it sounds this good and this loud, and I mean really loud. Not sure my De'Catted Sag with CliveF pipes is that loud!

Talking with Les it seems the delays are more to do with airBag and crash testing/certification etc than the factory. Only thing that's putting me if the volume, 500 in year 1, 2000+ in year 2. Going to be nowhere near as exclusive as my Sag if those numbers pan out.

Did I say it sounds fantastic!

And properly loud. Very loud

Show otherwise was a bit pants - though I have to admit a secret lusting over the ridiculously huge F150 Raptor pickup that was there in stealth grey paintwork

Hmmm, I wonder if they've put a different exhaust on it since Burghley then? It sounded good but definitely not what I'd have called loud (in the TVR scheme of things at least biggrin) when it was started up and moved there.

Might of been the confines of being inside but I don't think so.

I went from, nope still not quite doing to for me, will keep my Sag. To I really really want one the moment it started up! Then to hmmm no I want something more exclusive when I heard the sales targets and the confidence of hitting them.

What surprised me with the looks wasn't the front, which looks no different to the photos in my opinion, but their are subtle little details around the car that don't come across in the photos that make it more for a TVR. Initially when the car was first shown I had no interest because it didn't come across as a TVR - in the flesh that doubt goes, its very much a TVR. Oh and the interior is bloody awesome I thought - the photos def don't do that justice!

Was 100% worth going to the show for me, I really like the car and wish them all the success, not quite enough to displace my Sag but thats only because of the volume that looking to produce, otherwise I might have been very tempted to add my name to the list (but I would want to know that was the production exhaust!). Totally changed my opinion that 'it wasn't a TVR' it is absolutely a bona fida TVR

Loved Les firing it up and getting told off - pure TVR motorshow!! smile

My Cerbera with its factory sports exhaust was certainly a fair bit louder at idle than the new Griff when I saw/heard it at Burghley. The new TVR did sound nice when revved, but it was just like other modern cars and it was near silent at idle.

I bet it will sound nice when you drive it though with the window down, having the exhaust so close.

I asked for my deposit back due to lack of communication and not making deposit holders aware of when the car was on show. Had specifically sent a mail asking on next planned showing and was told they would inform me, well there was no further commmuniaction and missed the one at Birmingiham I could have made.

Granted they are busy but in this day and age communication is very easy.

Returned the money without any hassle so presume they have plenty on the waiting list, they did ask why I was cancelling, told them, but didn’t get anything back.

Do I regret the knee jerk reaction, possibly (yes really) but what’s done is done.

Wish them all the best and may still have one but most likely missed the chance of a LE.

I had good look at the car last September at Goodwood and don't recollect many of those details. What sort of touches are you thinking of?

But they did, didn't they ? There was an announcement for the London Show in the last update and you could even ask for free tickets ?
