Bedford track day, 15th of June. Come on guys!
Discussion
I bought a Maplins meter......useless heap of st. Told me my standard 4 litre Chimaera was 113 dB. Took it to Cadwell Park for a test and was told 97dB. Returned Maplins meter to Maplins on my way home.
If you have an iPhone, try downloading a free app called Decibel10th. I have found that quite accurate.
I have a quietened my Chim (now a decatted 5 litre) a bit, so might not need my two pairs of bolt on silencers.
I will bring them with me on 15th. You are welcome to borrow a set if they fit. I will call ACT and ask.

ACT cannot remember what the standard pipe is either, but agree that rolled ends are a big problem.
One thought that occurred to me if the pipes have rolled ends is to make up a pair of adapters. Buy a couple of short pieces (say 6 inches) of pipe that would fit one inside each tail pipe, and fix them in place with a self tapper underneath. Then bolt the standard 2.5 inch cans over these inserts. You might have to get the pieces of pipe engineered (he said "swaged") so that they are the tapered to be the correct diameter each end. The V8 cans fit over a 2.5 inch diameter (64mm) exhaust.
You are welcome to borrow one set of my 2.5 inch cans so that the engineering shop making any such adaptors can see what they are trying to do.

Thanks QBee. The only problem with this is that I fear that pushing the not inconsiderable weight of the cans further out beyond the end of the exhaust will put huge strain on the hangers, which could end up with damage to the rear spoiler. One thought that occurred to me if the pipes have rolled ends is to make up a pair of adapters. So saying, I am thinking of a Heath-Robisonson type fix, where I cable-tie around the exhaust hangers to give extra support.
I'll measure up the pipes this weekend and see where I'm at.
Including clamp they are 1.5kg each.
Another alternative is inserts - Phazed has some, no idea if they will fit, and again they will need a small hole drilling in the underside of your tail pipes for a retaining self tapper.
PM him for details. His car is 97 dB, so i cannot see him using them at the TD. He's a generous guy, always willing to lend stuff. Only thing I know about them is that they don't knock as many decibels off as ACT clamp-ons.
Sorry for the edit, I noticed as I posted that I had described my good friend as "a generous gut"
Freudian, non?

Are you decatted by chance? 106 seems very loud for the sdtandard system. Mine was 102dB at Snetterton at 5250rpm with cats and the standard box.
Alternatively, you could do what I did at Oulton last year to get the ACT back box through the 105dB test Fixed two layers of acident repair mesh over the tail pipes. Used some jubilee clips to secure it. Place a small amount of exhaust wadding between the layers, literally a single leaf layer.

Just found time to measure the standard box. Looks to be around 63mm internal diameter, with a rolled lip. That's about the same diameter as the ACT bolt-ons that I have.
I'll see if I can find a local place to mae a 'sleeve' to find in both pipes.
Still worried about the extra 3kg total hanging off the exhaust, but the cable ties may well help with that.

Interesting - and hopeful! If you have an iPhone, try downloading a free app called Decibel10th. I have found that quite accurate.

I have a Samsung Android though, so an App isn't going to help. Need to find a decent meter.

Hi All
I am planning to come as a spectator on Monday and hopefully get a passenger ride, but it says on the website no spectators how do i get round this?
Thanks Colin
ps First track day
The reason is that the pits are a long way from the cafe and they don't want people wandering around and putting themselves in danger.I am planning to come as a spectator on Monday and hopefully get a passenger ride, but it says on the website no spectators how do i get round this?

Two choices:
1. If you can get there by 8.30, meet us in the car park, come to the safety briefing, sign your life away, pay your fiver and get your armband.
2. If you know you will be later than 9.00, just say on here and I will email you my mobile number. Then you can call me when you arrive at the track, and I can drive over to collect you. While you wait you can sign on etc. sign on is in the cafe.
You will need a helmet. If you don't have one, we have two or three spares between us which you can borrow, or you can hire one for a tenner at the sign on.
The entrance to the Autodrome is at the south west corner of the site, so quite close to the roundabout on the A6. Beware of following satnav, it tends to take you to the north east corner, which is naff all use. Look at a map before you set off.
See you Monday!
