I honestly see the mass adoption of EVs as the savoir of interesting petrol head cars. When the masses drive EVs, the government will have no interest in a few old cars being used for fun. There won't be the push the legislate them off the roads, just as today you can still drive a traction engine on the road
I wish I could share your enthusiasm and optimism. Only this week the right wing mayor of Madrid removed the previous left wing mayor's ban on polluting vehicles in the city (seems to support m4tti's previous comment). It took the masses just 5 days to force him to reinstate it.
Yes you see a few old traction engines with Fred Dibnah lookalikes onboard but they are treated as Victorian timepieces and travel at a max speed of around 5mph. They are looked on fondly.
The same cannot be said of noisy, fast, gas guzzling V8s except by PHers and a few others. The congestion charge is just the start and I can see a mayor looking for the popular vote banning our cars.
I doubt a mayor would be impressed with a proper V8 guzzler.......

Petrol stations? As electric takes over petrol stations will be like pubs - they'll be closing at a fast rate. Will the petrol companies keep producing lovely 99 ron for us diehards and at what cost? And how will the government recoup the vast income from fuel duty? Someone will have to pay......

Last year in LA we had a drag race. In the blue corner driving a 400 HP F-Type some bloke called Davy Jones. He won a small race somewhere in France apparently. In the red corner Joe Soap Esq. in a Jaguar I-Pace. By the time the flag falls Davy is already well down the track having jumped the start. By the end of the quarter mile he's been blown away by new technology. We spent a few days driving through the canyons and on the track in the thing and old cynics like me were converted.
The future is here, it's awesome from a drivers perspective and it's only going to get better. Meanwhile "TVR" are trying to reinvent something from a bygone age only uglier.

Personally speaking I have no interest at all in electric motors, I don’t look at a 400hp one and think wow. There’s sod all mechanically in them to stop me being bored rigid so they could be 1000hp and I would find the products of Briggs & Stratton more appealing. Last year in LA we had a drag race. Rivian start production proper next year. They've been quietly working on these for about ten years pinching staff from McLaren and Tesla amongst others. Big investment from Ford and Amazon in 2019 too.Comes in SUV or pick-up flavour. Up to 400 mile range, 0-60 in 3 seconds, wades up to 1m, class leading approach, departure and breakover angles, quad motors give 750hp and unlimited torque vectoring options. Truck will pull 5,000kg, the SUV 3,500kg. Imagine the new Defender with those stats?

Interesting times ahead. For a fun noisy sports car petrol absolutely still has its place. But for everyday duties and as a replacement for diesel? The future surely is electric.

The problem is that Brian and Beryl who tow their Caravan to Devon twice a year won’t have the dough to shell out 70k plus on a towing EV.
If you look around you when you’re out on the road you’ll notice a large number of vehicles are pre 2010.

That info is from last years Le Mans results. Rebellion didn't do as well this year.

Oops, my mistake. I was flicking through the pages on the website and hadn't noticed the date of the link until it was added. Still asking for deposits for the 500 LE models too. Thought they'd all sold???
