maybe the difference is I try and fix small faults myself. I think this is something that would relate more to owners of older cars. More modern cars, and exotica such as Fezzas are less likely to have owners that fix bits themselves. Hence less posts to seek advice when something breaks. Its a phone call to a garage (and that exactly how I used to be with my modern cars so not slating it)

And I dont belittle my car FYI.

griff2be said: There are a lot more TVR owners on here than Ferrari etc which may account for the higher no of problems reported.

Almost always when TVR owners share experiences of problems with each other there is a 'wouldn't change it for any other car' feel to the posts, and long may that continue.

wholly agree

and I wouldnt change it for anything - apart from maybe a Griff 500

I've had my 98 Chimaera for a year now, had no major problems and done 6k mile in that time. Just had it serviced and nothing needed doing. Only things that went wrong are electrical:

Alarm would not stop going off - dealler replaced it under warrenty.
Boot release would not work - dealler adjusted catch.

It runs great. Just have to find a good one when looking to buy.

Years ago I owned a 924 Turbo, too.
Good fun though weren't they !

I have had new radiator, electrical problems, Speedo has just been fixed and my accelerator cable snapped. But I wouldn't swop it for anything maybe a Cerbera. Its the not knowing whether your going to make it too your destination that adds a bit more excitment to the journey. I know of no other car for the price that can offer the performance and shear ludicrus noise that my TVR does. Chimaera S3TAY.

I think one common view, probably near the money, is that each model's reliability improves as their production cycles' develop.

So it's always 'buy as late a model as you can afford,' for example, re. 2nd hand models.

I had a brand new Chimp 450 in '99 and within days the front lights had packed in (dipped mode only) which was a simple resistor fault. No big deal and sorted by the factory in minutes. Other than that, it leaked via the passenger footwell but hey, low volume, hand assembled, grunt/pound expended, etc.

And sure enough, a perfect runner in all other respects. But other than electrics the cars are truly pretty sorted. Same on the Griffs.

Cerby was the all too common experience. I won't sully the proceedings here but lemon doesn't come close. Would I have one again? Like a shot! Why? Because of PRECISELY what you lot are saying - you have to be of a certain mindset in the first place - like the man says, where your common sense gene is replaced by an x-rated speed version...

Still, I reckon an early 90s Diablo would genuinely have been a revelation - for me - ito reliabilty.

Who gives a flying in a rolling doughnut anyway? Windows down, drop to third (or second) and hit the light speed pedal. Fire, back fire, Satan laughing; explosion of metallic vomit. Marvellous.

I just looked on the Porsche page and saw that
derestrictor is thinking of defecting to TVR
ownership 'T350C' but was worried and being
seriously wound up about reliability by other
'porkers'.

A seriously funny comment was made saying that
'I hope your new home will be up North - 'cause
your garage certainly will be (reference to
Blackpool...)'.

Luckily I think it's pretty well know that the
Tamora 3.6 engine has been much more reliable
that the 4.0 engine in the Tuscan....
