"There's so little to be had emotionally"
Sums it up perfectly for me. A sports car should be all about emotion.
As for the sound, I much prefer my wife's in-line four Focus RS and would choose that car over a 718/S any day of the week. Especially as I grew up with hot hatches and it's half the price of the Porsche...

I was under the impression the old models notably the GTS have increased in value over the last few months. Bad news for flat 6 owners and prices

go ask an OPC how many they have sold, and go look at stock, which looks like orders but is stock, each OPC will order 3 caymans and 3 boxsters at least, x 35 dealers that's 210 ordered, but I asked how many boxsters one OPC had sold in the last 5 months and they said 3 !!!!Bad news for flat 6 owners and prices

sales are up due to Macans not 718's
I've seen a few in Hampshire & West Sussex - I guess those new to the marque who have not experienced the flat six 981's will look at (and be sold as by OPC's) as being both faster and more economical than the six cylinder cars. I can't imagine anyone with a 981 trading to one though!

All this talk (on this and other threads) about impact on 981 prices makes me smile! The value is only relevant if you sell it - and then you haven't got it any more! If you keep it and want to maintain its value then you must keep mileage low which means not using it - so what is the point of keeping it! Just saying !!!
Hardly surprising he's a Porsche fan...like many others it's about noise it makes.

If sales really are very slow I'm surprized that people aren't getting more than the nominal figures off list that seem to be reported.sales are up due to Macans not 718's

I have to say that I think Porsche have made a mistake with the 4 pot.
Hopefully it will turn out ok for the company in the end.
I seriously considered the four pot because it is still a great bargain with the performance that it offers. As said before, there is no alternative for new buyers if you want a boxter or cayman.
After sitting in a new 718, with full leather interia, it smells and feels just great. The small things they have done on the outside are very nice, and some of the new colours and beautiful.
I would only ever have bought the 2 ltr, and the feel of a new car would have been very nice.
But, although I only bought the 2.7 981 with no enhancements as I did not want all the junk...and its a manual to boot.
I am so pleased I went the 981 route, as I feel the same as Chris Harris.
A sports car without a soul will eventually loose its appeal.
Its not worth keep bashing 718 owners anymore because they do not have a choice if they want a new one......
In saying that, if there was no other chioce for me, at the time I bought my 981 I would have bought a used F type.
I must say though, if you drove a 718 and 981, and were going to keep it for 5 or 6 years at least, then the soul of the 6 pot would swing it for people who had previously owned a car with a soul.
Unfortunately, some people have never done that, so you can understand where they are coming from.
Gadgit.
