One of my workmates told me today that he read in last weeks MCN about TVR's new bike designs. I've not seen any news or mention of this on Pistonheads so i was wondering if anyone has any info on this?

I'm sure when NS first took over there was talk about expanding the TVR brand into bike, and his subseqent attempts to buy Benelli would suggest that is the case. Maybe these are the first signs of that work?

Yeah the link to Benelli has been featured in MCN before I think...

But TVR Power could be the more likely explanation as I've heard nothing on the Benelli venture recently?

Cant remember the details though.

There was a picture of the rumoured machine in a car mag a couple of months ago ( I`ll try and remember which one.!!! )...... It was pretty outrageous with slats in the fairing courtesy of Sagaris bonett...... 1000cc transverse 4 cylinder. TVR has had the engine designed and built for several years and is said to produce around 190bhp.

I'm referring to an MCN in the past week or two. Not the ill fated Benelli takeover nor the TVR Power top fuel bike. From what I've been told the article mentions something about TVR continue with desgning and building a bike in house in Blackpool with the first bikes on the road in 2007/2008.

Ted - Do you know if this is another rumour or is it based on facts?

i think it would be a disaster if TVR start to build bikes, the competition pretty much have it in the bag, it wil be hard for TVR to build a decent bike compared to the likes of Honda,Yamaha,Ducati and Suzuki, they all have huge superbike and moto gp programs to develop bikes.I dont think they will be able to match the engineering from any of the big manufacuturers(sp?) and i dont think people will buy them unless they prove this theory wrong straight away, i hope they do get it right i really do but i have my doubts.

Have TVR ever managed to match the engineering of the big manufacturers with their cars?

I think there is always scope for new arrivals into the market if they have something different to offer - and if TVR could trasalate their car styling to bikes I see no reason why they couldn't develop themselves a niche in that market.

IIRC North Coventry Kawasaki (NCK) did the engines for the some of the early 390SE's and 400SE's after Andy Rouse built a few. NCK, owned by a father and son team called Nash then somehow became TVR Power - not sure of the deatails. The Nash's were (and I think still are) heavily into drag bikes.

they may well build a great bike, but how are they going to develop it without a race program?,they simply dont have the money to do it, i think what will happen will be slightly similar to the MV Agusta they will bring out a great bike but slowly over time technology advances from the main manufacturers who have more money will start to make thier bikes more appealing, with a sportsbike its hard to change styling too much due to aerodynamics etc, if you look at most of the sportsbikes today,R1,GSXR1000,Fireblade,ZX10R etc they all look fairly similar style wise, sure they have thier differences and you can instantly tell them apart but i mean the shape of them, i cant see how TVR will be able to dramaticlly change the styling of the bike they will build and not stick within that sort of outline of shape if they want to be competitive with the others performance wise, good luck to them though i hope they do get it right i just think they will have thier work cut out of them.

As i stated earlier in this thread. There was a picture and write up in a recent magazine clearly stating that TVR already had the engine and a solid design for the bike. It was simply a case of finalising design and going to production. If he cant buy benneli which we know to be the case the next obvious move and taking into cosideration the fact he wants to build bikes is for him to build his own.....

Dom worked at NCK prior to the TVR takeover. He's heavily into bikes in his spare time (not that he has much) and I think owns the most powerful road bike in the UK.

We don't need another sports bike, the Japs have it sewn-up as you point out and a relitavely small company could'nt compete but whats to stop them producing a streetfighter with unique looks and a mad engine, a bit like their cars?

I think there'll always be a (small) market for non-mainstream sports bikes, a la MV Agusta, Benelli Tornado, FP1 (if they ever get into production) as well as some of the more esoteric 916/996/999 variants. Some people just want something a bit different from the crowd, like TVR really.

i would have thought if they were going to follow the path of thier cars a no compromise sportsbike would be exactly what they would be looking to build?
