Been thinking of trading up to a Tamora from my current 450 so arranged a test drive with a certain dealer down here. So I’ve just spent the last 2 hours driving to and from Chessington all for a 10 minute drive round town
managed a staggering 40mph. I was told “short staffed” the fact I booked this 2 days ago so they knew I was coming and there were 3 sales guys in the showroom when we got back kinda pissed me off a bit
. I know theres been a few treads about getting decent test drives from dealers but this was very disappointing and hasn’t inspired me to buy from a dealer, and to cap it off I still haven’t form an opinion of the Tamora

Hear what you’re saying guys and it’s the “what works for some doesn’t always work for others” chestnut again
You’re right Ted, think I’ll leave it a week or so then get back on the Tamora trail – I do like the looks inside and out but there’s so much more then look when buying cars like these.
On the plus side they didn’t give be a bad trade in price of my Chimaera

I must say I have had a good service from a Birmingham dealer (New one) two days ago. Whilst driving past to see a customer saw a rarther nice Cerbera. Called in on spec and 10 mins later we went for a 15 min blast. This even surprised me as I've had the usual coments about test drives, the best from a dealer in Derby area was, put a deposit on and then you can drive it (for the first time) before settling in full. Thought he was taking the p**s slightly there.
PS didn't buy the Cerbera no air con.

I've had a similer one, also in Derby, BMW/Merc Specialist who had a Cerby for sale, he said, I could test drive it if I bought it, but he would give me my cash back if something went wrong on the test drive!
Funnily enough I walked away!
in a different scale of things, my girlfirned booked a test drive for the new MR2 last Sat at a dealer in Epsom, we turned up, he ga ve us the keys and said go for a drive for 45 mnutes or so, and brieng it back, this car had only 2 miles on the clock and we returned it with 40 miles, we took a nice route, down the A3 for a bit of speed, round richmond park for a tranquil drive and then through kingston to try out the stop start urban traffic.
Admittedlt the dealer had my griff on the forecourt, but I was well impressed that he just let us go and find out what the car was like.
Neadless to say we will be picking up a bright yellow example of the Mr2 in a few weeks.
If only all dealers would just give you the keys for a good test drive, rather than a quick whizz round the block.

Was it the new Bromsgrove branch that you are referring to on the Birmingham Road? I went there, and the guys were very helpful. I got my first test drive of a Cerbera there, and would have bought, except the car was a little overpriced, and (similarly to yours) had no A/C.
They even offered to bring the car over to my workplace and take me out from there (could have been an excuse to go for a blat in one of their cars, but who can blame them!).

Dealers must be crazy not to give proper test drives. OK, they can’t just give one to any scrote that turn’s up, but if a punter seems even vaguely likely to buy, letting him/her have a proper drive is the best way to convince them to do so.
When I was looking into buying an Impreza Turbo my local dealer said he wouldn’t give me test drive because he didn’t want to get his demonstrator dirty!!
I went to a different dealer who just gave me the keys to their demonstrator and told me to bring it back in 2 hours. 2½ hours later I had a huge grin and he had my deposit.
And Fernhurst TVR were excellent. I happened to be passing so I thought I’d drop in for a quick look, arriving just as a couple were returning their Tuscan demonstrator to the forecourt. I got chatting to the salesman, explained that I was no way in a position to buy a Tuscan at that time but would love a go in one. No problem! He gave me the keys and off we went, even though I’d told him I wasn’t going to buy one! Pity they’re no longer franchised, but they’ll be first on my list if/when I’m looking for a used Tuscan.

I bought my Chim 450 from them a few months ago. Great group of people, gave me the keys to any car I wanted to drive and let me go.
The only bad part is that they really were not willing to negotiate price. I bought it anyway because the price was good. Huge

When I went to look at Griff's Spencer took me out and scared me senseless.
The best was last month when (while my 348 was being repaired) I went to look at a Griff 4.3 at the Wimbledon carriage company(which I was contemplating buying if the Ferrari was away for a long time) in my Jeep, I was told I could only test drive it if I bought it. ha ha ha ha ha,how I laughed.
If I could be bothered I'd go back in the Ferrari.

Fernhurst's have been excellent for me too - bought my current Chim 450 there - heres the keys sir be back in a hour
sold to the man with the stupid grin! Unfortunately they don't sell and don't anticipate Tarmora's getting onto their forecourt for a couple of years so I'm forced to look elsewhere - bummer.
Paul
PS I'm not so pissed off now - had time to have a good blast in the Chim which has (as it always does) restored my grin

I had a test at MV in the Tamora. Ask for spencer, he showed me a good strech of dual carriage way between two roundabouts.
No idea how long i drove for though. I'd never driven a TVR before and found it quite involving![]()
Bought a Tamora 3 months ago...
Stovey - were you going round the roundabout at Jct 6 M25 on Saturday @ 11ish just gone? Saw a Tamora just like yours stoppped at the lights.
Nice motor

Interesting to hear your comments on test drives - here's a good and bad story for you -
Last year booked a test drive in a chim with a well know dealer in henley. Drove 80 miles from the Cotswolds only to be told by dealer - deposit first or no test drive - turned out this guy was the MD - I'd be looking for the right spec they had it! - great way to lose a sale!
David Hendry in Wilts on the other hand gave me the keys for the afternoon - off me and the wife went.
Who would you chose?
