A local factor is selling imported Mob 1 at discounted prices...I assume the formulation and spec is the same as official stuff here, anyone able to confirm?

Thanks for that...wasn't actually the viscocity I was querying but the composition and qualidee of the stuff. Whilst I doubt they go to the bother of tailoring the products locally when the cars are pretty much the same everywhere, it is interesting that grades differ friom market to market. Academic though 'cos I bought the stuff

I've been using the french stuff for the last 5 years in a range of cars and bikes and it works fine. Our local Jeep dealer says he can't get it at trade price as cheap as you can but it in France. I buy it at the Auchan in Bolougne for £18 for 4 ltrs 5-50. Why does it cost £34 in Halfords for the same thing?

No, I'm pretty sure oil only gets VAT - 17.5% here, 18.5% in France on most things.

This cropped up in Sprint last year, when my attention was drawn to the price difference in the nonsensical 'Mobil One Track Record' newsletter. The conclusion was that it was simply rip-off Britain at work again - though Mobil did try to claim something about 'tailored to the British climate' or similar bollox.

Conclusion: Get it in France!
