They are based in Taiwan and have been on the go since 1940, however I've been told by several guys who work in tyres that they are part of Yokohama.
They are not the same company but they have had a technical partnership since 1959.

They often share a stand at trade shows which is why people think they are one and the same.

... but it seems some people will go for the cheapest tyres they can get hold of and actually say they perform well and last well , so this got me thinking maybe I've been getting it wrong all these years going for the expensive top branded tyres , I've tried cheaper tyres before years ago and they were rubbish . I personally could not put cheap tyres on my car, so are you a cheap tyre lover ?, or favour the much more expensive branded tyres ?
I also say there's more to tyre choice than price/quality. I personally don't like uni-directionals on an ordinary day-to-day commuting car, they are a pain when you get a puncture, or even when one/some of the tyres wear out and need replacing. It limits the options for positioning the wheels on the car.

For the more performance / specialist cars then you can live with a problem like that. But some pretty ordinary £60 tyres are uni-directional these days. Odd.
