First winter tyre test I've seen of 2017, and shockingly Conti are still winning. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2017-AMS-Perf...
The scoring seems a bit dubious. Just looking at the noise test there is an even spread between best and worst tyres, and yet all tyres received a score of either 10 or 8.

I currently run a car with 19" 245/35 tyres, Is it possible to fit 18" 225/40 alloys and winter tyres or would that cause problems?

No need to guess. Your handbook will tell you the correct size. Or the car might have a sticker with tyre pressures somewhere. Look for the "M+S" size.

I will be buying a new Ford Focus in a month or two. While it never really rains snow here, I will still buy the continental TS860 I think. Very impressive test results, can't wait to test them myself on the road.

Still running Vredestein Quatrac 5's come rain, hail or sun and they're pretty much the perfect tyre for the climate I reckon... covered about 8k / a year on them so far on a FWD, heavy, powerful car an they seems to be wearing very well, about 4mm on the front 6mm on the rears so happy to run them for another few months. Haven't had any issues regardless of conditions, even managed a wet lap of the Ring last October followed by a month of snow up here. Brilliant tyres.

It's the TS850P, which is a separate model in larger sizes.

The TS860P is due for release anytime now smile
I was thinking of the TS850P (in 18”) for my M135i but if the 860P are out soon then I’ll hold fire on a purchase......any ideas when they are due for release?

I have a set of winters from a previous car that no longer fit my current vehicles. They were only used for 4 months, mostly in snow.
They're 245/60 r18 105H. Is there anywhere I can find out what vehicles use this size winter tyre? I need them out of the way as they're taking up space in the garage.

For Alps snow / slush and as an all rounder... nothing's comes close to the Nokian WR SUV 3 - but it's a proper winter tyre. Probably overkill for rainy uk winters.

I ran my Conti TS830's all year round over two summers and winters at temps up to 30C, they were fecked after 60k miles.

Yep - not really had a problem running winters in summers. Wear seems about same with only the grip being entertaining (in a good way) above 20C

I thought it would be this season, but I've yet to hear anything official so it's unlikely to be this year now.

The problem is not wear, it's higher temperatures rendering them less effective later in snow.

That's complete nonsense.
