It’s all round crappy / frozen / winter weather not just snow and slush I am wanting these CC’s to work in.
I’m wondering the same thing: for all round crappy/wet/autumn/winter weather, whether to go Cross Climate vs Vredestein Quatrac vs Yokohama Geolander Edited by Pica-Pica on Friday 9th November 00:24

I am keeping an eye on Continental AllSeaaonContact.
Thanks. I see these won Auto Express 2018’s best all-season tyre test.LDN said:

All Geolander tyres are stamped with the Snow Flake mark, according to Yokohama’s website.
Hmmm, not sure if they have always been. I’ve slid down a snowy road with Geolanders on; And then went on to read that they go like hockey pucks in freezing temperatures. Which explained my mishap somewhat. I have a set for one vehicle and they go on the car; Spring to Autumn. I’ll be taking a look next time I’m with them!
Check out this test, which has two marked AT tyres included with "normal" all seasons:

While an AT tyre can be marked with mountain and snowflake, it doesn't mean it's a GOOD winter tyre.

Very interesting. And really drives home that as tempting as they are* ATs are a compromise too far for me. I currently have Goodyear Ultragrips on my D4 which again are a warm weather compromise and have much more snow ability than I'm likely to need on the south coast so I'm considering Quatrac 5s.Check out this test, which has two marked AT tyres included with "normal" all seasons:

Is there anyone on the thread with Vredestein Quatrac 5? If so, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts please
Yes - fitted to our Merc M class about this time last year. Did very well through the winter we had last year and that included a few spells of significant snow. I had a couple of occasions to drive out on broken, rutted farm tracks which are normally muddy and a bit slippy anyway, they were covered in snow and slush and never had an issue once. We've had them on all year, equally happy with them in dry and wet conditions as in the snow and ice, definitely recommended.NRS said:
Put my spikes on today. Probably not needed now, but preferable to doing it when it gets cold again. Had a lot of frost recently and was too slippery to be out without winters.
Having just come up north of the arctic circle for the first time, I was surprised to see how many people had spikes on from the end of September / beginning of October. Thought it a bit early but we got some heavy snow not long after so I guess not, it's been pretty miserable so far since then but definitely icy enough for winters/spikes.tobinen said:
I sent an enquiry to Vredestein UK and they say offically the Quatrac 5 is an SUV tyre but if it meets the load and speed of my CL then no problem.
It won’t be long before BMW or Mercedes make a two door, two wheel drive SUV anyway so you might as well get in at the beginning. Had good experience with Blizzak ws80 tyres. They gave me confidence driving in heavy snow and ice, although wet traction of these bridgestone tires was not impressive.

We don't get the WS80 in the UK but it's really well regarded in the states.Bill said:
But on their website it quotes a test where the Quatrac came first on a Golf.
The Quatrac 5 has both normal and SUV sizes, though they're replacing the Quatrac 5 next year so they might be phasing out sizes.Cheers.
As you're here... How does the Goodyear Wrangler HP AllWeather do? Goodyear claim all sorts of witchcraft for it: "As the name suggests, this tyre is prepared for all seasons. It’s all thanks to SmartTRED Weather Reactive Technology, which reads the roads and adapts the behaviour of the tyre. Easy."
