Also suffered a blow out on the M9 in the Volvo on Saturday. Underpants have since been deemed a write off. Now on the tyre hunt for it and can't decide if it'd be better to drop to 15's with cold weather tyres or just stick with the 17's. Given the 17's all need changed too, I'm thinking a set of 17" All Seasons and hope for the best. Given FWD and decent power, it'll absolutely destroy most things that are fitted. Comes with the territory I suppose.
All-Seasons - either Kleber Quadraxers or Goodyear Vectors are available in a V70 friendly 225/45/17.We've used the Quadraxers on both a 170bhp 2WD V70 auto and on our current AWD 230 bhp V70. Tyre life is fine - no different to any other tyre. The car keeps them on all year.
We went to Germany and back in the FWD Volvo the winter before last in mad blizzards with snowed over autobahns and they were fantastic - tons of traction. Sadly not yet had chance to test the AWD in snow yet since last year was so mild.

Thank-you sir. We've used the Quadraxers on both a 170bhp 2WD V70 auto and on our current AWD 230 bhp V70. Tyre life is fine - no different to any other tyre. The car keeps them on all year.

I'm on 205/45/17's with FWD and it's particularly hard on it's front tyres. I did think about dropping to 15's for the winter months given a couple of years back, my V70 Diesel was superb on all season Hankooks however my T5 before that was completely hopeless on Toyo's on anything but dry roads. Hence current predicament is do I stick All Seasons and tip toe about, or get winters on 15" wheels. Though it'll need tyres for the 17's regardless.
I'm suitably impressed with the Nankang SV's on the little Mazda - it was 10 degrees and damp this morning and it dug in on every roundabout. Really can't complain for the money however I suspect the Volvo would just tear them to pieces in no time at all. But then again, if they last 6 months then great as I'll need tyres for milder weather regardless because a T5 on winters, in summer is just a scary thought!
This is complicated stuff!

I'm off to the fitter in the morning to get the Nokian WR A3's I bought from Oponeo put on. Bloody Pug 407 I have eats tyres, 7.5 months and 10k miles a full set lasted, not helped by the alignment being out which I argued the toss with Kwik Fit this morning as they undertook it when the last set were fitted; ended up having to pay £45 instead of the usual £65 for a four wheel alignment, grrrr.

You'll be sorry, the blizzards are coming soon. I know they are, the Daily Express said so.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

The only thing I am not looking forward to is being outside in the cold jacking the car up twice to swap the wheels over
here they are

What tyres will be best for grip in Snow? that is my main priority, noise, wet braking etc are lower down the list.
Had a set of Vredestein Snowtrac 3 on a previous car and they were superb, looks like they are not available any more so looking for something even better, any ideas?
At that price point, the Nokian WR D3. Little more, Conti TS850 or Goodyear Ultragrip 9.Had a set of Vredestein Snowtrac 3 on a previous car and they were superb, looks like they are not available any more so looking for something even better, any ideas?
