Uneven tyre wear

I noticed the rear left hand side tyre on my Renault Master is very uneven.
Can't be tracking, it's not that kind of wear

It looks and feels like an old threepenny bit (remember those )

Any idea what the cause is? It's front wheel drive and is never loaded above it's design weight.

Yes, very patchy. As to type of tyres, they are Michelins and came on the van when I bought it new. Two years old now and done 60,000 miles on them, so no complaints, apart from this one tyre.
Interesting point about shocks though, never thought of that!
