If you don’t like this track try one of their other albums, the crazy fkers made five in 2017 each with a completely different style- they make everything from trash blues to surf music to heavy metal to trip hop. This one’s super interesting, they decided to record an album in 24 tet tuning

Proper speakers / headphones a must

That percussion!

I've been into music of all genres and I mean all, but they are something different. The microtonal tuning is genuinely new to me

Also followed a link to Wolf Alice. Equally enthralling

Those "micro-tunal" frets; are they not an excuse for not being able to do quarter step bends on a normally fretted guitar?

When I'm playing a blues progression, I'll throw in some squeezed "micro" bends that don't even get to a quarter step.

Oh sure, there are plenty of instruments which have no frets at all and the player is at liberty to hit any note major or minor or anything in between- I guess the difference is that if you’re playing as part of any kind of ensemble those notes are the exception to the rule and the bones of the track are assembled around major and minor.

I can’t comment on their musicianship, other than to say they are ace to listen to, but the our kids love the videos for Gamma Knife / People Vultures - a couple of top tracks....

Listened to various you tube tracks last night, most using more standard tuning and to be honest my initial enthusiasm started to wane a little as they became a bit "samey"

They’re creeping in, got a play on 6 Music yesterday, Frankie Boyle used something from Nonagon Infinity in the advert for his current affairs show... I saw a copy of ‘Gumboot Soup’ in a Brighton shop window recently...

I was going to type out a rebuttal to this post at the time with tracks for examples, but thought better of it as music is of course highly subjective.

‘Samey’, though. Can’t let that sit. I have listened to everything they have done and I am struggling to think of a less ‘samey’ individual or group. They’re hard to pidgeonhole but have flirted with trash blues, punk, prog, indie, lounge, garage / acid rock, surf music, indie... you name it...

When I started listening to this band heavily I worried that it was a honeymoon period and I was overplaying it but they have such depth and variety that instead they have become my favourite group. I don’t think I’ve ever had a favourite group before. I have run out of records to buy so I might have to buy a tee shirt and some tickets to Australia.

Read the thread 2 weeks ago, looked at some videos, especially live gigs,

and thought "well that´s interesting", looked at their page and -whoopee- they had a gig in Frankfurt last week !

So I went and it was just great, that variety of sounds and styles matched by their level of skills and performance.

They played some tracks that had the house jumping like "Doom City, Rattlesnake, Cellophane",

but also some tracks that started slower and progressed.

Sadly, the merch stand had completely run out of CDs so I have to order them.

Thanks to OP for bringing them into my field of vision.

rattle rattle rattle......8-))

Benni, very jealous beer

I first listened to this band around a year ago and this year I can say they are officially my favourite. This is significant as I have not tended to have a 'favourite' until now.

This year I have looked into their UK gig options but their only performance this year was the Green Man festival a couple of weekends ago. In retrospect I probably should've picked up tickets when I could and gone alone if I had to. The festival was a tough sell among my friends as it was a bit niche and we had already done one festival three weeks earlier.

My fondness for this group and their record label has been gradually shuffling Melbourne up my list of places to visit.

I fear now that they are going to be the kind of group who burns brightly but briefly, hopefully I will get to see them in the not too distant. In any case they will leave behind a great back catalogue which so far appears to have enduring quality? I'm particularly taken with 'Polygondwanaland' at the moment which I think is a masterpiece. Second perhaps being Flying Microtonal Banana.

Rattling 'till your death!

P.S. Would be interested to hear what the demographic was like at the gig, bet the atmosphere was great!

They seem to play everything in the same key..... the piece in the OP link is quite interesting for about 20 second, couldn’t listen to a whole album of it though

Russell : Broad variety in the audience, from teens to end-50s like me.

Shirts worn showed everything from metal & doom to prog & hippie fandom.

Thanks for the new gig link.
