Mk1 insignia woes
Discussion
I recently had my flywheel and clutch let go which the garage has replaced. Whilst I was coasting to the hard shoulder the intelliprotect thing flashed up and the engine stalled and could not be restarted. Not turning over at all. The garage are saying the engine is seized but it was fine prior to clutch failure. They have tested the starter and it’s fine. Any ideas?

They must've noticed if the crank wouldn't turn whilst changing the clutch and flywheel, surely. They might have gunned all the bolts out, but the tightening torque required for the flywheel bolts requires the crank to be 'locked', if only with a tyre lever. To a lesser extent, the clutch cover bolts also. They would have noticed!
I'd be asking them if the flywheel (ring gear) is correct. First test is to remove the starter motor and see if the crank turns with a socket on the pulley nut.

Going back to the original breakdown, what were the symptoms of the clutch and flywheel failure? Had it been slipping, or was this a catastrophic failure of something breaking/fracturing/otherwise grenading? Who made the initial diagnosis?

The clutch pedal had a slight judder when depressed. This was about 9 months ago. Then the actual failure was driving along the m4 and the pedal started not returning to its position and had to be manually lifted by my foot. As I hit slow moving traffic it got worse then a sudden engine cut out and it rolled to the side with the intelli thing logo on the screen
