I know there's a few track day type comparison vids floating about on YouTube but any PH'ers with real world experience of running both of these long term?
Reason I ask. Ran PS4's (not S's) on one of my cars previously, wasn't at all impressed with longevity. Switched to PS5's and have been much more impressed. Not only is the wet and dry grip as good, if not better than the PS4, the wear seems to be much, much better.
My other car is now due some new tyres. Based on my own experience I had planned to go PS5's, job done. However, I notice that the PS4S is also available in the tyre size that I'm after. The PS4S is more expensive, and based on my own PS5 experience, I hadn't even considered it until now.
Anyone with experiences of both? I'm hesitant on the PS4S if the wear/longevity is anything like it's sibling tyre of the same generation! Car is mainly fast road/twisties/weekend car.
Cheers

Unless you plan to do all four, why change from the PS5? The differing grip levels might unsettle the handling, plus , I don't know about you, but it would irritate me every time I washed the car to see two different tyres fitted.
Sorry I probably waffled too much in my post making it unclear. I have PS5 fitted to a different car at present and am happy with them.I'm looking at fitting new tyres to my other car which has Bridgestones fitted at present. All 4 need changing. Can't decide between PS5 or PS4S, as the latter are available in the tyre size required for this car.
No, sorry, that one is my fault. You quite clearly said they were on another car, I just failed to keep that in my head when replying to you.
I have no personal experience of the PS5, but I've got a full set of PS4"s" winging thier way to me for fitment on my XK. having used the less exotic (but still capable) PS4 on my Type R, I have full confidence they're going to at the very least equal them for road holding and feel, and hopefully wear too, as they all still had about 4mm at minimum when I sold it after two years and 30k miles. I never tracked it, but if I had, I suspect I would have been looking at the PS4s, which is generally regarded as one of the best tyres available for fast road/ occasional track use. When I worked in the motor industry for Lotus, we used Yokohama AD07 semi-slicks or Bridgestone RE08 on customer cars that saw track duties, unfortunately these are the only time ive known specific track set ups.
My general thoughts are the PS5 is probably a very good road tyre, much like the predecessor was, however its not the Sport compound variant, and because of that, wont soften up quite so much with heat and offer extra grip on the level the "S" will.

I'd go for the PS5.
Better wear, comfort and wet / cooler performance makes it a nicer road tyre IMO.

Looks to be split opinion! That video was useful, thank you for sharing.
Really not much in it, but leaning towards PS5 just because the car will not be a regular track car (might see one track day a year) and from that very in depth video, the PS5 seems to be very close to the performance of the PS4S but slightly better wearing and more suited to general road conditions. Also let's not forget how beautiful that sidewall is.
Don't think I'll be disappointed either way so might just flip a coin unless anyone else has first hand experiences of both.
As for the offer yes it would be Camskill that I'd be using they are priced fantastically and have £80 cashback from Michelin if all 4 are purchased. I can't find anywhere else that even gets close to this sort of pricing, not even Costco or Blackcircles which people seem to rave about.

Have PS4s on front, PS5s on rear (no PS4s were in stock and was stuck a few hundred miles from home with unrepairable puncture). 300bhp fwd hatch.
Feels like they are slightly less sticky than the PS4s, little bit easier to get the back out when lifting off but doesn't feel any different otherwise. Not had any problems with life on PS4s but don't do that many miles a year, every change I've needed in the last couple years has been because of punctures.

Biggest difference of the PS4S over the PS4/PS5 is that it has stiffer sidewalls I believe. It gives a more direct feel on turn in/response to steering input.
They are all sporty tyres and I've run PS4 and PS4S. Both are great but I prefer the 'S'. My car isn't exactly a limo anyway, so a bit less ride comfort is negligible!
I'm due new tyre so watched the Tyre Reviews vid. Excellent as always. I'll be sticking with the PS4S instead of opting for the newer PS5.

Funny you say that because a few different threads I've read across other forums suggest the PS4S has soft sidewalls! Half the time it's hard to know what is accurate and what isn't. I think because of the amount of wet/cold weather we get in the UK, and the fact that the car might do just the 1 track day per year, I am leaning towards the PS5 but we'll see They are all sporty tyres and I've run PS4 and PS4S. That video is great and proves that there really isn't much between both tyres.
To follow from my last post with the video,
I've used PS4, PS4S and PS5 :P
Is there a significant difference between them? Not really in my opinion.
The PS4S may have a firmer sidewall than the PS4 / PS5 Base, however, I would still say it's a very soft sidewall for a UUHP Tyre - Compared to Contisport Contact 6, Maxxis VS5, Yokohama V105s they are like driving on marshmellows.
If you enjoy / prefer stiff sidewall handling, Look elsewhere - In my opinion, anyone who is fitting PS4S's for the sake of track day usage would be better off getting a second set of wheels with Cup2s - Now that's handling feel (Though apparently soft by semislick standards
)

Yeah can't really disagree with that. There are better dedicated track tyres out there than the PS4S if the sole purpose was for track days, and the PS5 has better wear and cool temp performance, so those conclusions kind of answer my question I guess.I've used PS4, PS4S and PS5 :P

If the usage was 60/40 between road and track, maybe the PS4S would be the better choice but it's more like 90/10 in my case, so it's hard to find an argument against choosing the PS5.

PS4S is rock hard at 5c and considering the other benefits of the PS5 I might try them on the front if they are better over winter.
