Would just like to ask your opinions on this situation I’ve been landed in.

Found a used car on an approved used manufacturers website.

Car was clearly fitted with Continental tyres in the online photos and I would assume they were originals as the vehicle has only covered 13k miles from new.

Went and test drove the car, was told the vehicle had been fitted with new tyres.

I assumed that these were the continentals that were in the photos.

I’ve just found out that the new tyres are in fact Davanti DX640!

I’ve just spoken to the dealer manager and in a nut shell he said, pay us an extra £300 to put Continentals on OR have your deposit back OR shut up and just buy the car.

Are Davanti really a ‘great tyre’ that the manager is trying to tell me.

What would you do?

If it's that much of an issue & you don't want to pay the extra then ask for your deposit back.
They MIGHT then agree to fit continentals FOC to keep the deal or they may not.
If they don't then look elsewhere.

The way I’d move forward is to ask to see the brand’s approved used standards charter. Some stipulate OEM/premium tyres under a certain age/mileage.

If they don’t, then it’s just down to what you & the dealership can agree, and how much they want the deal.

It sounds like the car was fitted with the Davantis when you test drove it? If so, the SM’s options are fair. I wouldn’t let a couple of tyres put me off a car I wanted, I’d probably just run them for a bit and change them a bit later on.

If you like the car, buy it and put your own tyres on. Personally I wouldn't let the small matter of a set of tyres turn me away from the car if the rest of it is what you want.

Got some on my cooper s at the moment as that’s what it came with, dry is ok, but wet is a slip and slide.

Thank you all for your replies…..tyers are such an important part of any vehicle in my opinion as it’s the only thing that connects the vehicle to the ground….
A car can be fitted with the most powerful engine, the most amazing gearbox, the most trick suspension, but if the tyres are crap….then the above doesn’t matter.

I’ll take possession and strip it of it’s budget tyres, sell them on eBay and fit it with premium Michelin tyres.
