Information About Hammerite Paint
Discussion
In that case I think the plastic filler will crack and fall out with the heat. You may have to investigate a type of filling compound (perhaps an epoxy) that can resist the heat of the log burning stove. And then paint with a proprietory heat-proof paint that is recommended for cast iron stoves, etc.
Thank you Mopar440 and Squiggs
Mopar440 I painted the cowl after reading your first post and the Hammerite covered the filler the same as it covered the steel around it
The cowl is about 1.5 meters above the stove and will reach a temperature similar to a car parked in the Sun
I will keep my eye and nose on things and should there be a problem get another one manufactured, thats where the fun starts
Have a good Christmas and thank you once again for very good advice

This will probably be OK. Indeed it will be a bit like "low-bake" for the Hammerite.
More importantly, does the newly painted cowl look good now?
Yes thank you, the cowl looks ok considering I am no pro at filling and sanding, the Hammerite is hiding most of my bad feathering workMore importantly, does the newly painted cowl look good now?
Have a good Christmas
