Rust around windscreen

I have a 2004 Mercedes. On 99% of the car the paint is great... I understand this was one of the "good" years for Mercedes build quality, and the paint is virtually impenetrable. A good claybar and Autoglym and it's like brand new, and I've seen people wallop doors into it without so much as a mark on my paint.

However... I have some rust appearing around the windscreen. I suspect this is a combination of factors, namely having a windscreen replacement followed by buying a more powerful pressure washer. So, some paint has been weakened by the former and then blasted away by the latter.

Looking at it, the rust seems to go past the windscreen seal, i.e. if I get this fixed I will need to have the windscreen removed. The rust won't improve by itself, I need to have the paintwork tended to, but I'm worried that when the windscreen is refitted we'll be back to square one as the next bit of weakened paint chips off.

Is there anything that a paintshop can do in order to prevent this happening? Or should I just ask them to respray the entire surround?

Is it a wise idea to get them to repaint all around the windscreen surround or is it usually OK just to take back the rusty bits and repaint them?
