What Grit Sandpaper for rubbing down between coats?

I'm currently in the process of respraying a few plastic parts off the car (wing mirrors, lower bumper grille, etc) in Satin Black.

I have rubbed down the parts with 600 grit wet + dry and applied 4 coats of Red Oxide Primer.

Onto the next stage of applying the Satin Black, I was thinking that 4 thin coats will be sufficient coverage. But what Grit wet + dry should I use in between coats? Will 1200 be to coarse? or should I go as far as 2000 grit?

Its my first attempt at respraying so most of it is done using common sense and some internet research.

So some 1200 grit and a bit of water should do the trick then! Happy Days!
