G'day mates 'down under',
You Aussies don't realise how well off you are.
Despite the 'qld' monicker, I'm a pom. A Londoner originally now living near Portsmouth. This (UK) is the greediest country in the world. Used to be great but those days are long gone.Petrol, houses, food, cars, etc., most things are dearer here than anywhere else.
Went to Aus for the first time in '97 and loved it.
Been four times since. Hope to go again next year.
Love Qld,the Gold Coast,Sunshine Coast and
especially Cairns,so laid back it's horizontal,'though may not be ideal for younger people.
Love Melbourne too,and Sydney and.... It's become an obsession.I eat sleep and drink it.
I watch V8 Supercars,the best,get Unique Cars every month,got 60 die cast Aussie cars,buy Aussie beers,
drink in Aussie theme pubs, and wear VB,RAAF,HSV,and FPR t-shirts and Redback boots. I contribute here to the HSV/Monaro forum but being a pom I can like Fords as well, which doesn't go down too well with the HSV blokes.Just love them Falcon XR8s,FPVs and Utes.I even used to tune the PC into 2GB Sydney phone ins, how sad is that. And Tracy Grimshaw on Good Morning, what a doll.
So why don't I move down there if it's so great?
Too old,too skint, too stupid, too happily married, too impractical.Should have gone years ago and wish I had.
My ol'man has lived on Mornington,Vic. for forty years.
Fortunately 'er indoors likes it too so she doesn't mind me getting my Aussie fix every so often, and believe me it is a drug.I get really irate when I watch TV shows about poms who have moved there and do nothing but moan.I bawl at the TV " well bugger off back home".They're why we're called 'whingeing poms'.
My son is doing a Masters degree later this year and if he gets it I really hope he uses it down there. He says he wants to. Good luck to him, hope he does. There's
nothing here.
Any poms reading this trying to decide whether to go or not, don't even hesitate, DO IT!!! It's a great place, and another thing, don't believe everything you hear about Australians being bolshe. They are NOT! What they are is honest. They say what they think and to hell with the consequences. If you don't like it...tough.I never witnesed any PC or snobbery either. If you want arrogance and rudeness come to the UK.The best reference book is 'Down Under'by Bill Bryson. Read that and you will definitely want to go.Everything you need to know about Australia is in that book. It's funny too. Bryson has a great writing style.
Could go on for ages mates but that would take all night. Glad to have found your site. I'll keep an eye on it for info from my second home.

Hi there
Just off the boat so to speak.
Arrived in Melbourne a couple of weeks back, still trying to get the family settled and waiting for my T350T to arrive sometime in May.
Cheers
Bob
Welcome Bob, get rid of the 350 the roads here will kill it.
The people in VIC are the friendliest in Oz so you're lucky and especially so if you're into cars (who isn't?!)
Good tip here is to ignore any stupid pommy git remarks and join in the community by joining a sporting club or car club, you will make friends very quickly, just remember to take jibs as a friendly test of your sanity and skin thickness.

Second that - as soon as you start giving back, its beers all round. My first boss here in his first e-mail to me, addressed me as "Ya Pommy Bastard" - the response of calling him an "Aussie Git" worked wonders for our working relationship.
And Melbourne is a lovely place to be...
Well, I'm hoping to be in Melbourne and area around the end of June/start of July for 3 weeks or so.
Any race/autocross action that I can take in with these lairy aussie cars??
More importantly, anyone know of a fun job for an electronics systems engineer? I'll be looking around for one of those too, if I like it (almost certain, by the sounds of it), and I find a job, I'll be making the move too.
Thanks,
Gary

Not one to bite except of course if we get on to the "my car is faster than yours" debates
Ooh don't know if I can get rid of the T350, will have to see how it copes. Haven't found any roads as bad as some in the UK yet!
I would like to get a few track days in any recommendations? Philip island I guess any others in the vicinity?
Cheers
Bob
