Anyone got a VE Commodore SS or SSV?

Ah an auto is that? Part of me thinks that's not a bad idea to be honest. I don't love the manual box in mine and as you say you can tune the auto.
Does it come with flappy paddles? i don't think so right?
Yup, an Auto. Can't be dealing with a manual now days with the Perth traffic light obsession.Does it come with flappy paddles? i don't think so right?
No paddles, but the sifter is tip-tronic. Some of the US G8 guys have added paddles themselves using standard Camaro/Corvette parts. So I'll be looking into that and two tunes, one for 'normal' driving, and one for the 'sport mode' driving.
If you are going out for a drive this weekend don't forget its double demerits through to Monday night.
The race car I am helping build has the gearbox from a VZ HSV...Not sure if it is the same as the VE box. Anyway that has got this shifter fitted: http://www.mgwltd.com/camaro-f-body.shtml
Shift action is stunning, super short and close together.

Public servants getting more time off? Shocker!
Shame I just got my NSW licence really.
On a tangent, do you think that adding a MAF VCM intake will throw a code? I am inclined to think not and just get one and wait until I do exhuast for a tune. I don't think I will hurt it? I mean MX-5 and Scoob were both fine....this old tech V8 with MAF should be fine......

Something like this (30rwkw increase - blimey)?

I'm sure the MAF vs MAF-less is just the connector between the intake and throttle body (they also do an SC one).
I assume when you go proper MAF-less you just add a MAP sensor on the intake plenum somewhere, and then swap the MAF with a nice open pipe.
I'd have thought anything in-front of the MAF wouldn't really be an issue.
Probably find the MAF can't deal with positive pressure either (had a similar problem on the S2000, where the stock MAP sensor didn't like boost - on an NA engine the ECU thinks something is drastically wrong).
It's just a posh air filter at the end of the day. Unless you get some ram effect going on at speed?

I would normally agree... however it seems that with the L98 (one of the reasons I bought it) is that the engine is so ridiculously strangled its easy to extract the power from it, this being one way. I mean a 6 litre V8 ONLY putting out 360bhp is pretty pathetic. 4 litre V8 Jag XK8 puts out 300...that's old now...
My understanding is you can get about 30kw with an intake and a tune, I think I'll get half of that with just an intake and I think it will rev more freely and sound better. Unfortunately I don't have the available folding...wait let me qualify that...I don't have funds that I can use justifiably... to spend on an exhaust, intake and tune. So it will be bit by bit. I think $550 (rip off by the way) for an intake should be my first step.
I'll still end up using it even if it throws a code and I have to take it off and wait for a tune and the rest.
VCM seems to be the best of the best as well, MAF when tuned seems to only be about 1kw off mafless...and it doesn't contravene the law.

Hahaha!
Yeah L98 ...better flowing heads...blah blah blah.... I don't really care. With the GTS you get a lot of the good stuff already and it looks like the performance model...mine looks like every other car on the raod! Ha!
I plan to do some mods. I'd *love* to get to 3000rwkw or 400hp which apparently is doable....It will take me a while though.
Detailed the hell out of mine at the weekend for the first time... Argh...its a big car! My MX-5 took half the time! Still, most swirlies pretty much gone I think.
PS (I'll be going MAF to stay on the right side of the law! Apparently these days tuners can get pretty much the same MAF or not).

Doesn't have one?! That's odd....perhaps it is the case only has to have one if it was manufatured with one and as long as it hits emissions then its ok....weird though.
What tyres did your's come with...I have bridgestones on the rear that will need replacing soon, I have ATR Achilles on the front which I think are rubbish. I have no pushed them but I had them before in the UK and they were cheap rubbish I inherited.

I'd read none of the HSVs had one. But then it might only be related to the pre VE cars.
Tyres? Dunno. Recognised the brands, but nothing special. I know the are 275 on the back and 245 on the front, and as they are 20"s I'll be crying when it comes to replace them.
The 300kw VTII/VX/VY GTS sedans & coupes did not have the MAF on them, first appeared on the VTII GTS (Oz version, GTS-R in the UK) engine was built by Calloway. Tyres? Dunno. Made a new friend and compared motors a couple of weeks ago! Mine = standard sedan, his = tuned ute, cam, exhaust, intake, coil overs, wheels and soon brakes, clutch, enlarged intake manifold...sounds amazeballs!
Mine is cleaner though....I know, clutching at straws!
Rip shifter is a good mod but costly, full exhaust sounds great, also stock clutch on mine is crap.
Lit the rear up and the clutch pedal occasionally sticks to the floor... They all do it apparently! Even other GM cars using the same clutch gearbox combo! Oh well, 99% of the time no problem but a few launches and it plays up.
Couple if pics!
