Don't pay for the membership, use this link: https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/do/dyns/joinffp?code...
Also get a separate credit card wth points (they are far better here than the UK)
Once you get settled ANZ will probably give you one, I use the Black Rewards AMEX that gives 3 points per $ spent and they usually waive the annual fee.
Not something I can do just yet as I will be living in a hotel for the first couple of weeks when I get there so don't know if that classifies as a resident straight away to be able to sign up for it from the UK in readiness to get the first flight across. Also get a separate credit card wth points (they are far better here than the UK)

This is another free signup (ignore the expiry date it seems to still be working): https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/do/dyns/joinffp?code...
You could use your business address in Australia to have the card sent to.
Also look into your Medicare, health insurance and tax file number (TFN) applications.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
Cheers.

Whats the best credit card for Quantas points?
If Im still paid in Sterling I am officially UK and have bupa, etc.
How does this work with Australia?
not sure on what car, that ANZ one at 3points : $1 spend sounds like the best.If Im still paid in Sterling I am officially UK and have bupa, etc.

Put every last thing on credit, taxis, beers, shopping the lot. End of month pay bill no interest and 3 times the airmiles for what you have spent.
If bringing money out of UK use currency fair or similar, transfer into Australia account, transfer into credit card.
your work flying will build status with Qantas I.e silver gold plantinum etc
