Another mystery car at the Hotel de France in La Chartre-sur-le-Loir. We had one before (Help identifying a strange little car) but I couldn't ID it. I've got another mystery in the same location. It looks like a Buick RoadMaster to me - maybe 1949/50 but it's RHD and has different lights to any photos I can find of the RoadMaster. Here's a detail from the photo.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Bob

Looks similar to a 1950s BMW 502 but all the little details are wrong.

The four VentiPorts on the front wing I think mean (in this era) it can only be a Roadmaster, and Buick did make RHD cars for export. As for the lights, there were a lot of small styling changes made at various points.

Those "ports" were a popular accessory back in the day. You could buy them just to stick on your car. Usually orange in the centre with a chromed bezel.

I'd say with RHD that's a modified Talbot-Lago Baby or possible a coachbuilt Delage/Delahaye.

Here's a '49 Roadmaster I was looking at on Sunday, no photo of the rear but you can see some significant differences:

Buick made many models of Roadmaster. This looks like the 1940 version:

If you scroll the pics, there's a rear view.

The same site has pictures of several other models, '40 to '54, all with the porthole trim.

The wheels had me thinking - Rosengart Supertraction. They did make a handful of 4-door saloons.

PS Belay that. This is RHD.

Based on the boot emblem and the general styling of it I thought Adler, although I don't have any ideas as to the model in might be.

None of these photos seem to have the portholes?

That's as maybe. I'm just telling you what it is, not commenting on the owner's taste in aftermarket stick-ons smile

This one does ... though other photos seem to have either no portholes or three instead of four.

Very different C-Pillar arrangement on that one.

That's because it's a 2 door, and the original picture is a 4 door.

I love that you know this, but how?! There were 500 made in the 1950s, and that is it apparently!

Well firstly, knowing that particular format of registration plate was introduced in 1950 is helpful, but mainly it's because of the Salmson badge on the bootlid. smile
