Hi Benjj
Dont normally wander into this bit of PH but just to throw another suggestion at you, have you considered Blyton?

Much more affordable with the numbers you have, quite a fun track and reasonable to get to.

If you book it as a test day there are no noise limits and he runs the day as one car on track at a time, 1 warm up lap, a couple of fast ones then a cool down lap and as much time on the track as you like.

http://www.blytonpark.co.uk/track-hire/

I have no other connection than really enjoying my day there last year.

Thanks for that.

Pros and cons really. No noise limit is good, as is low cost and location.

1 car at a time is rather dull though and would put me off.

I may be interested in bringing the 924S along, dependent on location and work commitments.

Id you're talking to Donny then it might be worth having a chat with Jonny at Bookatrack he's put on 'special' days in the past for the porsche boys. I think from an insurance point of view it may be beneficial to some to have an ATDO member involved.?

I'll come and play if the Beetle engine is done in time..

What I meant was like this for example:

10.00 - 10.30 - group 1 open pit
10.30 - 11.00 - group 2 open pit
I'll keep an eye on this thread as I really enjoyed driving the Aston at Monza this summer. My concern will be the nature of the groupings. I will see if you have what I would call an older classics and younger classics group rather than classics and old moderns. Some of the cars being mentioned like the BMWs and Porsche 944s will clearly going to pretty quickly on the straights.

Rich, yes, I agree with that completely.

I've been giving this some thought today and the crux of the matter is this: if we want a purely PH day then the dates need to be more relaxed than pre 19XX only.

If we do keep it purely PH we have a measure of control over behaviour and what cars are on track together. I think this will work out best and ensure everyone has a good (and safe) day out.

Also to add:

Yes, the groups will need tweaking. However everyone is paying for an open pit day and it would be wrong to limit people to only a half or a third of the day to get out on track.

With that in mind I'd propose it ran something like this:

Morning: 2 groups (pre and post 197X) having alternating 30 minute slots.

Afternoon: full open pit with the last 15 minutes of each hour as a dedicated novice or more leisurely driver.

All of this is open to discussion though, I'm not the boss.

I'd suggest that having groups based on age of car is not too relative. A well prepared and driven 60's Lotus elan will be quicker than a lot of 80's cars around Donington and some big-engined older cars will be considerably quicker on the straights than some more modern stuff which could be quicker around corners.

I'd think that most that book up for this will understand the spirit of the day and drive with consideration for the age and experience of other drivers. Maybe just a suggestion that those with older cars or who do not wish to push their cars as hard go out in the first half of each hour and those who want to push on or have really quick cars leave it to the second half.

It's no fun being either the slowest or quickest on track so most people will sort themselves out to be on track at the same time as other comparable drivers/cars.

Either way it looks like being a good day out!

S..

Sorry, no conspiracy, people editing and copy/pasting from older lists. Use the most recent one above, number yourself and you should stay on!

Hi, Will - I will have a spare seat. Don't forget your helmet. Have you still got those AM GKN wheels with slicks ?

Gentlemen of the Racing,

A couple of updates for this thread:

Firstly (and sadly) I've got my teeth into a load of real life work stuff (urgh) plus various other projects with a charity I work with and family stuff. This means that I'm not going to have the time to give this germ of an idea too much thought or effort in the coming months. I am still very keen on it and think it would be a hoot but I'm running on fumes time-wise.

Secondly I did give it more thought over Christmas and I think the reality of the situation is this: cost wise it is really only going to work for a majority at a certain price level. We will struggle madly to meet that by hiring a private track so it leaves but one option - tacking on to an existing track organiser's day. I suspect that a few select phone calls to GoldTrack / MSV etc would enable us to get first dibs on something, ideally taking a whole day (or at least the majority of one.) I think the ideal would be a track day organiser giving us (PH) a month of pre-registration before they open it up to the mass public.

So if anyone feels they'd like to pick up on this and make it happen it's all yours. You can count me in as an attendee 100%.

That's a shame benjj, I wonder if dinkel would be interested in taking on the mantle?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

As you say, price for many people is the clincher and I suppose that's why no TDO has to my knowledge put on a classic only track day (except for the dreadful classic action days at Combe).

Hi all, thank you 'elderly' to drop my name en initiative.

Who of you - and what a nice pack of cars on the provisional list - would like to do a Donny trackday and with tuition from Joe and Oli?

Maybe start a new topic to clean sheet this one.
