Clearing out a few old newspapers from the 80's and 90's and though I'd post up a few adverts

Some of those mundane 80s and 90s runabouts are being sold in the classifieds today for silly money. I've seen Austin Maestro's and Mini Metro's for more than a grand for what is a 30 plus year old car. It seems anyone will try and flog anything from those decades because they know there will be the nostalgic type who want to relive the days of their youth.

Metros were good cars, I had two. Would love one with a an 1800 vvc conversion.

30 year old cars sold as classics, shocker! Funnily enough, 30 year old cars in the 1980s were sold as classics, too. Can't blame folk for selling stuff at the prices people are willing to pay.

One of just thirty two 5000GTs, of which twenty were bodied by Allemano, this one was sold to Auto-Paris dealer in April '64. The others were bodied by Touring, Pininfarina, Monterosa, Michelotti, Ghia, Frua and Bertone, from what I've read and seen no two were exactly alike!

I know the thread is about old car ads but here's another rarity from the Maserati back catalogue - the Tipo TM15 1500cc, about a dozen or so were built for carting parts and machinery around the factory.... I'd love to know if any have survived....

There's a big difference with something that was (and still is) considered a classic, to something that was a run about shopping trolley that nobody cared for aside from getting from A-B.

What some people consider a classic others will not. Personally I think something like a Metro is a classic because regardless of its looks or performance it was of its time.

My 2002 TVR is considered a classic for insuring. Clearly specialist cars are different.

I bought this the other week. Even the museum doesn't have it, and I've never seen it before either. Pre-release advert not only for the XK120 but the still-born XK100

They are only a part of the whole, just so they can be legible. Buy as regards old car adverts, here is one for you to peruse

I like the mention of reflective number plates in that last ad, very 'swish' and newfangled at the time! The earliest advert I've seen for them was in a 1968 issue of Motorsport, but it took a while for them to catch on.
