It was hit, by a drunk driver, in 1981.

With the £ value of these cars now, if this had happened within the last 10 years, it would have been repaired.

I’ve just stumbled on this thread, and it is making me misty-eyed for my mk1. I believe it was last in white and taxed n 2000.... I’d love those times back again. 3000E with head work, cam, single cherry bombs on Janspeed exhaust manifolds.

Hello Ian, nice photos and memories !
Intruiged by this 3000E, can you recall when you sold it ?
Be worth putting it on a few of the Capri Face Ache groups, someone may recall it.
Strange that it was re painted white.

This 73 GXL, is listed as “ Exported “
Guessing Ireland.
Last taxed in 2002, anyone recognise it ?

I had no idea the RS2600 was made after the facelift ( or maybe I’ve misread your post ).

In the vinyl seats, I’m sure my dads GXL had vinyl on the outside and the inserts were cloth.

But that was a long time ago.
The cloth centre seat sections, were a £ optional extra on the GXL.
I’ve seen GXLs, with and without the cloth centres. In 2010, I sold the front and rear seats from a GXL, with cloth centres. They had been fitted to a 71 3 Litre car.

Note also the RS only, black roof lining and sun visors.

I’ve uncovered what appears ? To be an RS3100.
I went to view what looked to be ( via a couple of very unclear photos ) an unfinished resto project, September 1972 on, 3.0GXL. The car has been off of the road for many years.
I only had a short time to view it, but as I went to leave, I took another look @ the interior and as I looked up @ the head lining and sun visors, I was absolutely stunned to see that they were black ! Which is RS only.
All of the other Face Lift Capris that I have owned or seen / pre purchase inspected, have had an off white head liner and sun visors.

I bought the car on the spot.

There are other “ clues “ which strongly suggest that this car is not a 3.0 GXL, but an RS3100.
It’s diamond white ( one of the original RS 3100 colours ) it has quad head lamps, no steel sunroof, after market “ RS Capri “ stainless sill tread plates ( an old Capri club accessory I believe ) opening rear 1/4 windows - these have been replaced with a pair of matching 1971 date coded, non opening windows, as their glued on catch design, was dire and the glasses used to fall out and smash, but the cut outs in the trim panels, for the windows catches and the body mounts for the catches to screw into are all, still in place.
I’ve not yet seen an RS31 which wasn’t fitted with opening rear 1/4 windows.

The rest of the glass is dated 1973 ( the circa 249 RS3100s were built up, in November / December 1973.
It’s been fitted with a Cologne wide arch body kit, many years ago, complete with 4 x gorgeous Compomotive split rim alloys.

Research is ongoing.
