That'll be why they were a better finish than the usual Pugs!
Before I had my 406 Coupe, I had a plain old 406 saloon, which was built in Sochaux, France. The 406 was a well-built car, with a wide variety of trim levels and options. That car never let me down once over the two years I owned it, and I only changed from it to the Coupe because the Coupe had the more powerful 2.2 litre petrol engine.I also just got back from a work trip to France, where I had the use of a 1-to-2 year old Peugeot 2008 hire car. Had the 1.2 litre 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine, which produces around 110 HP and 180 ft/lbs torque, and was surprisingly fun to drive. Made a pretty good sound, too. I had no problems with it either, save for the GPS being a little bit out-dated and the boot being a bit small for a car of that size.
The design of the 406 Coupe was entirely Pininfarina, based on the 406 saloon wheelbase and running gear. None of the body panels are compatible between saloon and Coupe. The styling is brilliant - understated, but still sporty to look at. Flying buttresses around the rear window, one long, graceful, swooping curve from the bonnet up to the boot lid, large wheel arches with a little bit of flaring to them. Even the seats were styled by Pininfarina and built by Recaro. The original 6-spoke alloy wheels were styled by Pininfarina and built by BBS. 4-pot Brembo brake calipers on the V6 and HDi models.

This photo brings back memories for me.In the 70`s I was service manager at this Peugeot Dealer, the MD and the sales manager were out for the day,so I was in charge. The phone went and the guy on the end just said "I would like to order four Peugeot 604`s please". I replied "is that you John taking the piss".Luckily for me the guy saw the funny side and four 604`s were delivered to Castrol Research for testing their new oils.

That is the remains of an XKSS in the foreground. What a waste!!J
I wonder if the chassis number off that XKSS is now being recycled on one of the new cars or if those are just the ones which were never actually started?

There were 9 XKSS Cars lost in the fire and all of them will be built over the next year or two I wonder if the chassis number off that XKSS is now being recycled on one of the new cars or if those are just the ones which were never actually started?

"Eager bids from scrap merchants were all rejected. The wrecks will be melted down, for Jaguars would not lower their reputation by allowing spare parts, damaged by heat, to appear on the market."
