It's a Maserati Quattroporte 1, probably one of the old fire tenders which were done in the '60s for racing circuits.

That makes sense, it does rather look like it now you’ve made the link. I recognise the front up to the B pillar but didn’t know about those being modified for that purpose. Very interesting, thanks.

These and all the equivalent Morris, Wolsleys etc were a cheap old car when I was a youth, the local hoodlums trashed a huge number. They were a comfortable old cruiser though.

I passed my test in one. A lot ended their days banger racing too.
