Dare I say it but a certain pre war SS prototype, residing in a well known Jaguar collection was built not far from here in Colchester. Even the experts have been fooled on that one. I suppose elderly, when all us old boys have gone, the truth goes too.

I admit it, I've done the same thing with my Jaguars but for different reasons. You know how it is; you park the car up all nice and dirty on a tour in a village square and this old guy comes out, his eyes bright and remembering the days gone by when he saw them race as a kid. He is just thrilled to see one again. So I spin him a yarn about where it raced and he goes away happy. I've seen the disappointment in their eyes if I tell them the bald truth. They want to believe so I let them. However, that's far different to trying to pass off my Lynx or worse the C-type to the cognoscenti as real. No way - I'd be drummed out of here!

On the subject of fakes, there is a very red faced Japanese fellah at the moment too; his "Bugatti" has the same chassis number as that pulled from the lake in Switzerland............

Oh, and as regards the C-type for sale by Coys,I see they've dragged out the word "evocation" to describe it. Last time I saw that in a catalogue was at Rockingham when XKD 505 was sold. But it's not an expensive price for a full on C-type replica - they cost that to build.

Tony,It`s much more 505 now than it was when lynx created it.
Well worth looking at what Lynx did. Seems to me they were responsible for some risky dodgy stuff back in the day. Not for me I`m afraid.
They have gone and I`m still here.

Time for some people too put there money where there mouth is!
The Jag is now for sale, £2000 no offers or tyre kickers, first come first served, you ask us to hold it for a week fair enough, but if someoneelse comes up with the money before the end of that week then its theres. Egine and gearbox all fine, all running gear useable, chassis in good condition apart from its bent slightly at the back on pass side, wings are saveable, all parts we saved off it are with it, windows, dash etc.
£2000 NO OFFERS!
Contact me on 07954378234 Laurence, i wont bite lol
Now lets see who will back up what they said when its worth so much.

If you're going to advertise it on here, then I it least want to see engine photos and external photos of damage etc.

Laurence,
I know you said the ID plate was missing.
Have the numbers been somehow removed from the engine?
There should be 2 copies, the easy one is on the head the slightly harder to find one is one the side of the block near the oil filter. Can you confirm the first two letters?
Also where abouts in the country are you based?
I'm trying to work out whether I can find somewhere to keep it till I can start a rebuild.

You're making a false assumption here in my opinion. I can see the value of something, not only in money terms, but also in terms of heritage, and to suggest that we all wanted to actually buy it for ourselves is incorrect. If I saw an Allegro used in stock racing, I would think that's a shame too, but I wouldn't want to buy it, but I'd love to see someone who's passionate about them getting it back on the road.

Anyway, I'm glad that some here have already shown interest, and I look forward to reading the restoration thread. smile

Yeah, I know. I really hope it finds a good home and gets back on the road, but you didn't really contribute much to that happening. Good luck with the sale thought.

Thanks, BJ is a 2.4L Mk2 engine, so I guess this is the number from the head and it's been swapped at some point.
Also for anyone who is interested, the link to the photos doesn't quite work, it says its expired but if you follow the link back to Lawrence's home page you can get to the photos from there.

The front passenger side wing looks to have escaped the action. Any pictures of the drivers side wing and the front?

There's something perverse about that sort of wilful destruction.

Still, I imagine you got some respect from the mouth-breathers for "racing" something rare.

Is it the same with arsonists and listed buildings?

Provisionally sold!
No pics of pass wing, in the last race though, i nudged an xj6 with it, fairly hard and its creased the hole where the light should go, will pull out very easily though.
Cant ahve got the engine number right as its a 3.8 not 2.4.

And to put minds at rest, the bloke who bought it, asked for all the chassis numbers etc that we could find, engine numbers, and it is comletely legit!
