While there's a general move towards everything being 'eco' the populus chose to drive round in 3 ton behemoths; battery assisted no doubt 'cos it's green. rofl

Then don't forget there is no MOT. You see some right turds driving around. With suspension which would make you sea sick and pumping out clouds of smoke.
I understood that many states require annual vehicle inspections
No idea

I saw some right horrors smoking around in Oklahoma and similarly on Top Gear they bought some old turds to drive around in on one of their shows. Like I say I was in Oklahoma over 10 years ago so maybe it's changed there but I doubt it. Its quite poor there in places and they all have their flags outside their houses and chant god bless America constantly. Google found this

The following are the 14 states that currently require annual safety inspections:

Hawaii
Illinois
Louisville
Maine
North Carolina
New York
New Hampshire
Massachusetts
Pennsylvania
Texas
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
West Virginia

That seems to be the fking top and bottom of it. Very few people outside classic car circles appear to give that much thought.

For instance what happens when everyone drives some hulking POS like that? No "moving over a bit" in the next bay like the Pug, you won't get out the doors!

Don’t know if the day will ever come, perhaps they will need their own special bays soon...

The more I look at it the more it looks like my Pug is leaning itself away from that big bully!

Nothing like as stringent as our MOT checks are. Their inspectors don't go around checking suspension bush play or prodding the undersides for corrosion etc., which as said is why you see some real rolling disasters driving around!

Don’t know if the day will ever come, perhaps they will need their own special bays soon...
They go on facebook or similar & complain that the parking bays are too small & why doesn't anyone do something about it.

To be fair, parking bays are a bit small for many cars now.

Obviously the piston heads way to look at it is that the cars are too big.

Obviously the correct answer

No pics but I had a rather ironic moment earlier today.. I could see what was a noticeably small and boxy and obviously older car coming towards me... only for it to be Volvo 740 estate, one of the biggest cars of it's day.

It looked tiny compared to the other medium sized modern cars around it.

And obviously, the old ‘council garages’ don’t actually contain so many cars these days.
( Or rather... can’t) yikes

That just shows how safe you are in a modern car. Size, weight, airbags, crumple zones etc.
I like to look at it as it's oversized cars like this that make the small cars unsafe!
Absolutely, the number of people you see driving these huge, overweight things not realising that they can take out half a county and just walk away.

The bonkers driving I see on the school run in huge 4x4 type things is terrifying.

IMHO they give a dangerously high sense of security when driving them. A sort of "i'm alright, bugger everyone else" attitude.
Wife bought a newish Touareg, lots of motorway and A roads.
Her wouldn't drive anything "Non- SUV" on the motorways,
To be fair, the bigger SUV's do fair better in the smashes.

My brain just can't comprehend that one at all, it must be a trick of perspective.

it literally looks like a kids pedal car and Corrados aren't exactly small and the modern cars alongside aren't exactly huge oversized SUV's

The Mitsubishi and Volvo are big cars

Left: Mitsubishi Grandis 7 seater MPV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Grandis

Right: Volvo XC60 SUV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_XC60#First_gen...

One big MPV and one fairly big SUV.

So, either bigger car parks or less bays may be the solution. scratchchin
