Good grief! I used to think the Countach was pretty big itself!
Winner so far for me!
That's not big and it's not clever - you've obviously searched the net for that picture because the green Lambo is positioned further away than the white one. 300bhp will soon be on your case biglaugh
It's not that much further away in relation to the distance of the photographer. It would be interesting to see them side by side but:

My, that green early Countach is gorgeous. All those wings and spoilers didn't do anything for the design in my opinion. It was perfect right off the blocks.

Thats amazing. The original mini looks like a pedalcar/toy.
I assume this is the 'larger' mini - whose name really doesn't 'go' anymore does it?

Shame as the photo is a bit fake in this context. I bet the cars aren't all the same length thus the the cars have been resized to suit the picture.

You only seem to want to talk about the Countryman as it is the only car I can think of that has changed market position in the way you have been banging on about for so long.
Actually I only mentioned it twice and once in response to your previous post.

Wuzzle said:
The Countryman is a new model using an old name.
Yes new model old name, that I think sums it up nicely for 90%+ of all cars still using the same or similar name as before.

Wuzzle said:
The 3 Series is still the 3 Series.
In your opinion, I don't agree, which is my opinion. smile

Wuzzle said:
Can you name me another model that has changed quite so drastically. The only other I can think is the Fiat Croma, which went from large hatchback to MPV type thing.
As said already, I think the change is more subtle and less drastic with other models, but in my opinion, I don't consider many cars to be the same market they once were despite using the same names.

Agreed, hoping it will take 300 quite a while to research all the exact measurements, work out what class or sector they are meant to be in blah blah blah and keep him away from this thread for enough time for it to get back on track wink

300 - next time you are actually next to these cars, have a look yourself. THey are genuinely smaller, for all the reasons quoted in the thread.
If you care to actually read what I've put, I've never said 'x name' car wasn't bigger than 'new x name' car. I've said the newer one might share the same name, but as a rule isn't the same car.

And if you care to read what the OP's thread title is, it actually sais "Classics dwarfed by moderns". As to why or what the cars are is completely irrelevant as its a bit of fun and something you still have yet to grasp rolleyes

That's a picture of a Mini, a compact 2 door city car and a 5 door compact SUV with 4AWD. Quite a pointless picture really. Also the Mini is parked further way to exaggerate the point.

BTW - the Countryman is still probably the smallest 5 door SUV on the market, so "MINI" is fairly apt for those that still struggle to realise it's a brand not a description.

Actually it's a hotel car park, although all the vehicles are "family". And to add icing to the cake the Toyota is the only one there that needed a replacement engine tongue out

And despite that pic being 10 years old or so, the Rover, TR7 and two of the Disco's are still owned by the same people and still going strong. smile

isn't that the '5 GT' though a slightly bizarre and gawky looking Hatch

admittedly comparing the larger 'MINI' vehicles to the Original Mini is even more comical than comparing the mini and the MINI

Interestingly, somewhat back on topic, in C & SC this month they note that the Mk1 Jaguar was actually bigger than either the Zodiac or Cresta of the same period. I'd probably have bet otherwise, this being the so-called "compact" saloon. Just shows how our perception of things is sometimes at odds with the reality.

My expensive memories are of the Toyota. It cost more to run and gave more trouble than all my BL (and heirs) put together.

They aren't if you look closer, there are some other measurements which don't quite add up either. Or are they really 20-22" rims on the Countryman?
