Bit like myself then smile

Appreciate the advice the advice DA!

I fear mine may be worse as I am pretty slow when using the car and shifting gears, it’s also my 3rd classic so am used to there behavior to a degree and this seems like more of an issue than normal. My battery is old so not sure if this is contributing to the issue.

For years I kept mine in an underground car park in London and I always had to remember to switch off anything that put a load on and try to avoid full lock for the same reason as the best means to inhibit the desire to stall when going into reverse. My TVR Griff would do exactly the same when lifting off and then coasting. It’s the recovery bit of the ECU that doesn’t always catch it in time. You see the rpm drop below 500 and sometimes the RV8 stalls before the ECU can recover it.

I’m hazy but I think there is an actual component in the system that manages the function. There will be someone on this threadnor in the TVR forum who knows precisely.

By far the best way to handle the issue on the Griff was to not coast so not creating a situation where the rpm dropped to idle from a high level and in my Rangies I’ve always held them in N and listened for the engine recovery to normal idle rpm before selecting reverse.

The TVR guys will know what you are incurring if you explainnit as the same as stalling on lift off as the rpm pass below the idle level and not recover.

Something else ringing a bell is that this gets worse if the AFM is on its way out?

Looks lovely dude!

Anyone else had an issue of revs diving and cutting out when going into reverse?
It *may* be a fault or disconnection with the speed sensor. The speed sensor sends a signal to the ECU to tell it when the vehicle slows to a halt, its related to adjusting the stepper motor so that it ticks over at the right speed. It should be bolted to the chassis near to the handbrake drum, with a speedo cable going into both sides, one to the box and one to the dash. Assuming somebody hasn't relocated it at some point!

That said, I have a 3.9i in my Defender and I don't have a speed sensor on it at all and it works fine. But there are those who say the sensor is essential. Worth a check anyway and they're not expensive to buy (used) - £50-ish.

Or of course it could be a sluggish stepper motor.

I would clean up the stepper motor, and also there is an ignition amplifier, costs about £40. That stopped all the low idle issues on my Griff

Changing the idle air control valve stopped mine doing it when it was cold.

Nice colour.

‘danboats’ on eBay seems to have an exhaustive supply of later Rangie parts and is a nice guy and fair to deal with.
Thanks, I'll have a look.

Not sure what happened with the photos, they didn't appear on my original post hence the duplication as I kept trying, but they have on the quoted post!

So the Range Rover just had a big birthday and there aren’t any birthday wishes on this thread! As it’s raining and I’m sick of my home office I thought I’d put a belated one up here. Let’s show the love!

Happy Birthday to the absolute OG!

Apparently, 50 is not a number we celebrate in our household. This was made abundantly clear to me earlier in the year. biggrin

Anyway, the van got a birthday bath in the rain this morning.

Thanks. Still some trim bits to finish such as the binacles and the sun visors also need to be retrimmed correctly. The steering undertray is also not yet fitted properly as there is still some electronic work ongoing.

It certainly would have distressed some people at the 50th show seeing a ‘72 Suffix A utterly destroyed like this. biggrin. Probably would have been the end of John Craddock.

Here is a picture of my soft dash LSE taken yesterday. It’s almost ready to return to the road for the first time since 2003!

What an absolute beauty!

What purpose does the hub on the passenger side serve, other than symmetry?

Thanks.

My OCD dictates that there must be symmetry.

My arrogance dictates that I can make a more elegant job of a glove box than any of the specialist companies in the 70s and 80s.

My wife dictates that her junk must be in the car so it needs to be hidden away.
