Interesting mix of East and West Berlin cars, four years before the wall came down in 1989 scratchchin

A commercial interlude...

XR3 / XR3i behind the fence above the HA van, so 1980 on, those vans looking their age by then.
The car to the right of the XR3 looks like a Montego so that'd make it 1984 at the earliest.
Could it be an Audi 80 B2?

Possibly the junction with Earl St - totally redeveloped and unrecognisable now. Very expensive real estate.

Until 1976, I was in university hall of residence at Bunhill Row just 0.5 miles from Appold Street. It's changed so much that it's hard to identify where the large hall and refectory actually existed.

Different worlds...

Aaaaargh!
Maybe but now I'm looking at it more I'm thinking it might be a Mk5 Cortina.
The windscreen surround on that is at the same height as the top of the doors whereas on the Audi it's slightly higher and I'm not sure the C-pillar/rear side glass on the Montego is right for the picture.
Hopefully one of the sleuths will tell us that there was a Ford garage next to the junction smile

Could the snowy picture be Crayford"s overflow storage at Tatsfield Nudist Colony in the winter of 1965 ?

One Corsair and lots of Hornets for the Heinz 57 conversions.

Quite a few of these have survived, there's even a register for them in one of the Mini clubs.

“Hello is that Crayford? I have a spare conservatory window that I thought you could weld into my Mercedes”

“No problem. It wont fit properly or look like anyone with any previous fabricating experience has been anywhere near it though”

“Done”

“Yes sir, you have been”

Estate cars do seem to bring out the irregularities in car design, don't they?

What you thought was a square, boxy design suddenly turns out to have curves or angles you didn't know were there until you tried to make an estate version. See Volvo 240 rear door frame for example.

I’d live with it, coachbuilt estates are always cool.

That brings back memories. When I was a kid, a family friend had a very early Mini (reg no 8593 UP), so it had the sliding driver/passenger side windows, cable door release, floor-mounted starter and illuminated indicator stalk. I remember he frequently had to replace or repair the door stays, which routinely snapped due to clumsiness or being caught by the wind. Looks like it’s gone on the one in the picture here smile
