Love this period photo of footballer Andy Gray and his RS2000 that's just popped up on Facebook.
Judging by the width of them flares and the S reg, the car must have been relatively new. Cant remember if the rear side RS2000 decals were dealer fit or standard for that year model.
They were factory fitted with the 'broad stripes' . The delete option was the pin stripe as above, this car has been treated to the 1/4 panel decals as an add on. A very common modification back in the day.
They look slightly out of position to me. (Too far forward )
Less desirable is the dent in the rear panel !
A small dent you say? Pah!!

Ouch......that looks scary from the drivers point of view.....hope it wasn't a fatal PolAcc.

Yes it reads bad & rings alarm bells, quite possibly an innocent error and no alarm bells required.
However it makes you wonder if the advertiser isn't the owner. Strange basic fact to be wrong.

Sure I read that a wall collapsed on it, whilst parked up. Driver wasn’t in it fortunately. Merseyside or somewhere up north.

Yep, Merseyside most likely, as I believe Liverpool Police were the only force to operate a number of RS2000's.

I believe at least one, or maybe two have survived as well....pretty sure at least one has had a full restoration back into its Police spec?

My second RS2000 was an ex police car - albeit unmarked

As has been said so many of them were modified years ago. I bought my 1978 RS2000 in 1983 and it allegedly had a Stage 2 head and had stiffer and lower suspension already - plus a hateful vinyl roof!

No RS2000 stickers though, just a single pin-stripe.
The most common mods amongst my mates when I had mine was the Capri 2.8i blue Blistein front struts , 1" 1/2 lowering blocks on the leaf springs at the back and 38 DGAS carb from a 3 litre Capri. Did all of those to mine . Never went for the single box Janspeed though as that was just to loud for me.
Ah memories !
Also popular was a Kenlowe fan. Supposedly released 2hp ? Ford claimed 98hp for the normal 2.0 Cortina but 100hp for the Kenlowe equipped mk1 RS2000.

You're right about the Janspeed single box system. My 1980 car had been fitted with the Janspeed manifold and single box exhaust. It sounded lovely going up & down the rev range but at a constant speed, like 70 on the motorway, it droned away. The only thing to do was to change speed every now and again to give the ears a rest, or change of frequency. This was still on the 4 speed gearbox so would seem even noisier today now that we're all used to 5 or 6 speed boxes.
As well as the Kenlowe, I had Lumenition on both mine too.
I had the EARS twin box system on my second one - did a fair bit of travelling for work ( on petrol expenses which was very lucrative at the time and paid for mods and maintenance) and it was just the ‘right amount of exhaust note’ for longer commutes

I had a brief look at today’s auction and prices looked on the low side. However, this is an RS2000 that looks in really good condition so I can see it making £30k plus.

I watched all of yesterday's auction live on YouTube, lots of cars not making there estimate. Is the market slowing? There were some proper bargains to be had I thought. Will watch todays lots, better not register to bid! Will be interesting to see what the RS goes for £30k+ I would assume.

Has the RS Bubble started to deflate a bit Rob ? As you say , historically its one of those Cars .

Yep, I had an EARS twin box system on my 2nd Mk.1 RS2.

Couldn't be doing with any single box system, especially with a four branch fitted, way too loud.

I watched on Yesterday last week an episode (I think 2021) of Bangers and Cash where 2 RS2000’s a Red and Green one made over £40k and £30k respectively.
I think that any decent RS2000 is a good investment as the cars have such an enduring appeal.

Every time we think the Ford RS market must have peaked it carries on going. It’s quite bonkers really.

I’ve invested far more in my resto than it’s worth currently but I’m not in it for the investment.

I think the colour on the Anglia Auction car will hold it back a bit and I’m sure it’s not the condition you see in pics. Always hidden dramas

Dangerous hobby on a quiet weekend bored at home wink

My nipper ended up buying an 88 911 whilst watching it on TV. Bought blind…very dangerous and instantly regretted it
