Gah!! What are those rear lights from?? I thought early 800 Rover, but the Rover came out years after the Murena's demise and used ribbed not flat lenses. The closest I can get with a Frenchie from memory is the Horizon, also Talbot of course but they aren't the same either.Don't tell me they're unique to the car?
Love the three abreast seating, one for you, one for the missus and one for the mistress. How very French!

Not seen a Matra mureana for years, think they went on to build the plastic Espace's for Renault.
More than that - they designed the Espace themselves, took it to Talbot who asked them to build it for them (hence the Talbot style face and lights on the Mk 1) but then took the idea to Renault when Talbot pulled out late in the day.uk66fastback said:

You're kidding me! Horizon base units and lenses unique to the car. http://www.pistonheads.com/Gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The Murena's rear lights are probably to be found on other French cars of the early 80s, but I don't know which ones off hand.
Unfortunately, they are unique to the car and very hard (and expensive!) to find. They were taken from the Simca Horizon, and the base units (the bit you screw the lamps in, basically) are the same, but the Murena light covers have some kind of extension so they will fit the curved corner of the car.[/img]porsche924 lights look very similar but were they around early enough?

If I see the guy again ... I think he may be a local ... I'll definitely ask him.
I would think the chances of it being unregistered for so long are tiny, surely?
I know the plate goes with the car but it just looks wrong with the yellow and white plates to me!

The chances might be tiny but it's still a possibility.I would think the chances of it being unregistered for so long are tiny, surely?

My suspicion is that it's more likely to be a car that was imported back into Country and still carries it's import issued registration number.

Illegal to put anything else on.Although it looks a bit jarring with yellow and white plates, I think it would look just as bad with the same registration on non-reflectives. I'd guess that if the owner put a private plate on it, it would cost them a fair amount to get something as appropriate to the car as the current plate. And it's a talking point.

Even if it's a cherished plate, the 'S' suffix plate is dated between Aug 1977 and July 78, which shouldn't be displayed on a car built in 1959.
Agreed. It was first registered in the UK on 1st June 1979, so it looks like someone has taken advantage of slack DVLA procedure when the car was imported and issued with a then current "T" suffix plate. The current number will have been transferred on to it. All supposition on my part, except for the first registered date obviously.I've seen a 1920's Ford Model A with an "H" suffix plate recently....
