I was trying the other day to remember if there was something kind of knack to this.

Is the whole length of the cross member appearing to catch against the waist at the top of the door or snagging somewhere else?

I don't recall any issue just lifting them out once the bolts were removed.
Yes you were spot on. I wasn’t convinced I could get to each bolt but it was fairly easy in the end. The lock mechanism also put up a valiant fight but I eventually worked out how to get it out of an impossible gap. Just the lock itself to go now.

Once done and I have cleaned and greased the mechanism on the locks I am fitting an improved stainless steel rose joint over the plastic BL parts that take the strain from the lock through to the door latch mechanism. Mine have broken twice in my ownership and I am hopefully fixing it for all time now. I needed everything out to clean and grease but also enlarge the fittings. If this works I am awarding myself a massive man point and probably a pint.

Good stuff. Clean out the bottom of the door while everything is out and then float some waxoil in there. biggrin

Hi Folks

Looking for some Pistonhead wisdom. I have a 1993 Vogue SE with a very dark brown interior. I'm trying to source some vinyl (or leather) to recover the central cubby box.

As with many of them it's broken in the usual places and there's no decent way to repair it without stripping the vinyl off and recovering (the vinyls damaged too so I can't even reuse it)

Does anyone know what the colour of that particular interior was called?

Many thanks in advance

James

Yes. I have the matching carpet and plastic trim in my car. And when I remember I'll let you know. biggrin

Just found a random reference to Bokhara after trawling loads of ads on Ebay. That ring any bells with anyone?

That's the dark brown plastic. There were a couple of colours for the dash and all that stuff.

There was the dark brown plastic which was Bokhara. Then there was the dark brown leather and carpet, both almost a Bournville Chocolate sort of brown? I'm sure they had two different names.

I spent ages searching on EBay for all the Bokhara trim and the leather seats (common in an LSE and the carpet.

Unfortunately the range-rover-classic.com website appears to have gone and it's taken with it the huge resource where this information sat.

the RR classic site was my first thought as I remember it detailing all the trim levels, anyone know what happened to it?

It's gone down before so hopefully the chap is ok and it'll come back but I noticed it down about a month ago.

The early brown LSE leather (and plastic trim, not the dash/console) is Saddle, which was replaced by the lighter Sorrel Brown for 1994.

Might be worth giving Trevor at Nationwide trim a call and ask him if he has any of the vinyl in stock.

I used the RRC the first time after about 6 weeks. Started on the spot smile
Happy to report the AC works perfect with 29°C and in full sunshine.

Took it to the DIY car wash over lunch to wash off the dust from the underground parking. To dry off I took her to the nearby german Autobahn and I was once again impressed how this old beast picks up speed, well relatively. I only got her up to a GPS approved 164 km/h (103 mph). The tachometer showed almost 180 km/h. No doubt it would have reached the factory 110 mph speed limit.
Of course you have some windnoises, but not as much as one would expect from such an old bus with the aerodynamics of a wardrobe. biggrin

Really great classic car for the summer thumbup

do you not find that the doors start to bend out at over 90mph? happened with both my LWB (hard dash / soft dash)

No secondary seals on mine, and it’s fine over 90 - worst wind noise seems to come from the scuttle intake.

I did not notice this... What exactly do you mean by doors bend out? Do you mean the actual metal door skin? If so I didn't hear anything, but I haven't checked visually, as I tended to look more what was happening in front and behind me laugh

Imho, 3k rpm is 132 km/h (82 mph), which is a comfortable continental cruising speed (now only my cruise control needs to work frown ). 2.8k rpm @ 120 km/h (75 mph) is nice for Switzerland. Oh, over the last 250 miles trip (autobahn, some passes and some city traffic) I got almost 17 mpg. Could be worse wink

Brain hasn't kicked in with the name as of yet but this is the very dark brown that I'm thinking of which I sourced from LSEs to put into mine:

If yours is the same then it might be worth asking Trevor at NationWide, as Jon suggested. Make you you speak to Trevor. He's a delightfully miserable sod who has re trimmed most Rangies that have been fully restored and while he may not know the name he may have a scrap from mine or another that he can reference to find you a replacement vinyl.

That said, while typing this I've just realised that you're talking about the centre console with the cubby as opposed to the seats? If so then that is a separate material again and was either dark grey or dark brown (Bakhara) and it might be easiest to just source a complete replacement. If that's the case then look for Danboats on eBay, he is brilliant, nice bloke, and breaks Rangies and seems to have pretty much everything you ever need. He may just have a whole unit in good condition.

Door tops/window frames, meaning there’s a gap at the top.

I haven't had this in every 4 door I've owned. The last one, the '89 definitely did this and it began around 85 mph with an overt noise from the top corner of the driver's door which by 100 was showing daylight. But the one prior didn't do that. My 2 door doesn't do it much at all since I physically bent the top frame inwards so that it sets properly in the frame.
