We have finally landed at our digs near Valencia. Will not be driving through there again, just glad it was a Sunday!

The Spanish city planners appear to have got a deal on traffic lights, zebra crossings, speed bumps and roundabouts and applied them furiously. What price safety though, eh rolleyes

Not sure if images are loading, but if they are…

and if not, picture miles of smooth winding roads cloud9

Thread title is becoming quite ironic. I have two trips to France planned for this year and now I can't think about anything else! I'm trying to get some work done, here!

Not just the thread, mind. The garage got back to me the other day to say the car is all done and running beautifully - AAAARRRGGHHH!

Six more bloody weeks to go.....

Well, it turns out that the Valencia based place with the tyres is actually 40 miles south of Valencia, but not a major issue as we can swing by on our way to Almería tomorrow driving

On a happy note, met some friends this evening who have just returned to Valencia from England yesterday, yarns and drinks blabla

You mentioned the Hotel de France earlier, and I thought you might see this model which was made by a departed dear friend and we went together to present it to the Pasteau family who had owned the hotel from the beginning of the last century until about 2013. I won't go into the reasons, but the diorama is no longer there unfortunately.

John Curtis, who made the model to commemorate the one time that Aston Martin won Le Mans in 1959, seen here with the Pasteau family,

I inherited a couple of his diaromas from the family

Roadside picnic once more for lunch. A little under 200 miles to go until Almería. Cloudy and little cooler, but pleasant.

Two new tyres and one new wheel means we now have a full compliment of aerated tyres and a good quality spare clap

Edited to add, new cover for my leg/armrest cushion purchased too loser

We have made it! 1876 miles from home with only a flat/knackered tyre and an occasionally sticky accelerator cable. The 2CV has done us proud driving

One minor upset on arrival, as the only space I could park in to unload the baggage was on a 30 degree slope and the handbrake wasn’t happy. Oops, I pulled a little too hard and fully compressed the pad return springs. Luckily found a security fence base to act as a chock whilst I gave the handle a superhuman effort and got it to release. Very clean hill start and away we go to find a flat parking spot for the next three days!

Sorted and happy to be here woohoo

Whoever said that we might be underwhelmed by Gibraltar was correct. It’s basically an English seaside town on a hill with its own permanent cloud generator. We haven’t even been able to relax by the pool as it’s been overcast and frankly chilly since we arrived biglaugh

Still, the hotel is fine and I’ve a day tomorrow to check over the 2CV before we head for Caceres and the sunshine once more.

I have no one to blame but myself, I allowed my BiL’s wife to book the accoms and clearly her version of 150 miles a day leaves about 100 miles a day to be desired confused

Still, we’re here and we’re enjoying it. Seems difficult to believe we’re on the return journey in a day!

Stay tuned…

That’s more like it. A day by the pool after a quick check over. Tyres all full of air, wheel nuts tight, engine and gearbox oil both fine, everything else visually O.K.

One last night on Gib and then off to Caceres tomorrow. Big drive through the hills inland. Fuel here is cheap, £1 a litre. Might bring some home with me…

Phew. Long sweaty day, but we have landed at our digs in Caceres. Around 290 miles today. I think that’s our longest stint, but the hills and roads of mid-western Spain have been brilliant. Again the 2CV has done us proud clap

Off into town for a bit of the foreign and some sustenance…

I thought of you just now as I followed a Méhari being driven on its doorhandles, sans windscreen out of Swindon just now. The driver looked like he was having much more fun than the Ferrari driver I saw parking in Sainsbury's.

What's with the LJZ plate? Co. Down, Northern Ireland from 2006/7, a bit newer than the vehicle its screwed on to.
Will do.

Went into town for some grub. Today is the second day of the WOMAD Festival, hence the place is rammed! Back to the hotel for a very nice meal in a very quiet restaurant!

We’ve had the plate for a few years originally on my Daughters Defender (which is now my son’s Defender with a private reg on it).
I stuck this one on the 2CV as it looks a bit French if you squint biglaugh

Sorry to take you back a page, OP, but did you drive into Gibralter?

We are thinking of calling there late Sept but I'm uneasy about taking the camper in, thinking more about parking on the Spanish side and using Mk1 feet....any advice, please?
Yep, we stayed there three nights. Parking would be an issue unless you’re staying in a hotel I think. Probably best to park in Spain and enter on foot if only there for a day. Google Gibraltar Hopper and you can buy a day ticket for all the buses for £6.60. Great way to get about the place.

We have arrived at our stopover in Portugal. What a drive. M611, a mini Stelvio. Scenery galore! Superb bounce

We’re staying in a converted grain silo, which is actually pretty damn cool!

Left Spain on a sour note though, as the parking that I thought meant five hours free, wasn’t. Ticket for a €60 fine curse

Smashing drive through Portugal and back into Spain. Just landed at our digs in central León. Very odd driving through the pedestrianised old town to get to the hotel parking whistle
